England’s Shaun Murphy relives Crucible memories: 2005 World Snooker Championship
Former World Snooker Championship winner, England’s Shaun Murphy is one of the leading cuemen right now and holds a string position in every major and minor ranking snooker event. The Englishman has performed tremendously from the beginning of his career
and was able to grab almost all major titles in his career including the 2005 World Snooker Championship and the 2008 UK Championship.
The 2005 World Snooker Championship was one of the memorable events for the Englishman because it placed the first stone of his present status as a major name of the game. In his recent interview with Pro Snooker Blog, the Englishman relived the memories
of his 2004-05 Snooker Season campaign and the championship.
He said, “When I beat Chris Small in the first round I thought that it was nice to have won a match at the Crucible, that was great, I could always say that I had got there and won. I didn’t expect to beat Higgins in the second round. I really enjoyed the
match against Steve Davis, though I was very nervous playing Davis at the Crucible.”
He added, “Really nervous, but played very well in that match, through to play Peter Ebdon in the semi-finals. The first two sessions of the World Championship final I was a bit of a rabbit caught in the headlights. I was pleased in the end with obviously
how it worked out.”
The Englishman did tumble down during his career run and failed to win any major or minor ranking snooker event but he did not lose heart and continued his tremendous performance which brought him in the line-up of top guns of the game. He is now one of
the toughest contenders of the World Snooker professional line up as he has that unique playing style that troubled his opponents.
The Magician grabbed his first event title in the year 2000 when he ousted Stuart Bingham in the final encounter of the 2000 Benson and Hedges Championship. He continued his dominance in the game claimed a couple of minor events in 2001. However, he failed
to get any major title in the 2002-03 Snooker Season.
However, his most terrific success, which took him to the next level of excellence, was the 2005 World Snooker Championship where he was brilliant on the baize. The championship title was a real motivation factor for the English potter as he cruised into
the top ranks after that.
