England’s Stephen Lee feels confident for Crucible battle: 2012 World Snooker Championship
All top potters around the world, who have been placed in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship are preparing for the ultimate snooker battle at the Crucible Theatre baize. The competition is definitely getting hotter with each passing
day and even the spectators are waiting for the action to begin.
Meanwhile, the winner of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship, England’s Stephen Lee is also heading to Sheffield to play his first match against compatriot Andrew Higginson at the Crucible Theatre. The Englishman is feeling quite confident and determined
to spark his cue stick in the Championship and bring some fireworks at the arena for his fans.
He said to On Cue during an interview, “I'm happy, yeah. I'm feeling good in myself. I know it's going to be a tough thing to achieve but I've just had some photographs with the world trophy and it's the closest I've been to it for a while. You don't get
given the World Championship. It's a graft and I'm prepared for the fight as long as I enjoy it at the same time.”
The 37-year-old added, “I've had a great few months. I'm quietly confident but I think a lot of other players are as well. It's a tough place to go and play but I'm bang up for it. It's all set up for that but if you're low on confidence it's really tough
and there's no-one to help you.”
Lee has been a consistent performer in the recent snooker season and has fought back to clinch a spot in the World’s Top 16. He started the season in a bit slow manner and was not able to reach the advance stages of any major tournament in the beginning.
However, impressive finishes in the PTCs brought him into the Top 16 and he felt a boost in his confidence. He continued playing well in the second half of the season and finally was able to win the Grand Finals of PTC.
Lee has played against Higginson a number of times before and understands the playing style of his opponent. He has defeated him before so there will be less pressure on the Englishman because he is in full swing especially after winning the PTC Finals.
