England’s Stephen Lee trashes Michael Holt in second round of 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
Runner up in the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker tournament, England’s Stephen Lee added another easy win in his account after he pushed down compatriot Michael Holt by the score line of 4-1 in the second round of 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand
Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland.
The spectators present at the arena did not have to wait much to see the final results as the Englishman was impressive at the baize against Holt. Lee defeated fellow Englishman, Martin Gould in the same fashion in his first round encounter of the event.
With this classy cusses in the second round, Lee has made his way proudly into the quarter-final stage of the tournament where he will meet the World Number one Mark Selby or the 2012 Welsh Open Champion, China’s Ding Junhui.
The opening frame of the game was Holt show as he breezed past Lee with a sensational knock of 54 to hit 0-1 lead in the match. At this point, the match seemed a bit tough for Lee but he did not lose his focus at all and fought back with all his strengths
to clinch back-to-back frames and snatch the lead at 2-1. Holt tried to pull back with a cracking 62 break but he needed more to unsettle his opponent.
Holt missed his opportunity on an easy pink and let Lee at the table who swept it in the next two frames to clinch the victory.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, Lee said, “The clearance in the fourth frame was the key moment, the chance was there and I had to take it. I didn't sleep well last night and woke up with a sore neck, and didn't feel right today. But I played
ok in patches and I'm enjoying it.”
The 37-year-old added, “I've got Ding Junhui or Mark Selby next and they have both turned me over this season. In the best of seven matches anyone can win.”
Lee has been performing up to the mark for the past few months. He has become one of the emerging potters who might be troublesome for the top guns in near future. His performance in the 2012 Haikou World Open was an indication of his rise.
