England’s Stuart Bingham ready for Stephen Hendry clash in 2012 World Snooker Championship
Opening round fixtures of the 2012 World Snooker Championship have been finalised after the finish of the qualifying session at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. England’s Stuart Bingham, winner of the first ever major ranking snooker tournament in
Australia, the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open, has been drawn against the former seven-time World Snooker Champion from Scotland, Stephen Hendry in the initial round of the Championship.
Hendry qualified for the first round after he defeated the young Chinese potter Yu Delu by the score line of 10-3 in the final round of the qualifying session. Hendry dropped out of the World Top 16 because he was unable to perform according to the standards
in the recent season. Now he wants his place back in Top 16 and has aimed to clinch another world title before he thinks about his retirement.
Playing against Hendry, especially in the World Championships, is never easy because the Scotsman has been the king of Crucible seven times before and knows the pressure. On the other hand, Bingham has never played against Hendry before so for him, the clash
will be a thriller as he knows what the Golden Boy is capable of when he is in full swing.
While speaking to BBC about his match against Hendry, Bingham said, “I feel quite good about it, you know what you are going to get with Stephen. He's the best player that's ever picked up a cue. It's easy to get up for that.”
The 35-year-old added, “I haven't played badly but people are playing a little bit better than me on the day. I've been losing a few matches I thought I could have won." "I've been crying out for the last 15 years to play more tournaments. Now we've got
them and I've got a young family. It's just one of those things.”
The mega event will commence from April 21 at the Crucible Theatre with 32 potters aiming for one goal only, to win the World Championship. Hendry is one of the top contenders of the Championship and he definitely has the spark to claim it as he has done
it seven times before. Meanwhile, Bingham is also aware of the pressure he will face against the Ice Man and is all set to play his first challenge.
