England’s confidence on high as they open World Cup campaign against Netherland
England captain, Andrew Strauss feels optimistic about his team’s performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 in the ICC World Cup match scheduled for today.
Inspite of their 6-1 loss to Australia in a recently concluded One Day International series, the Poms are riding high on their victory in the warm-up matches against Pakistan and minnows http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748.
Strauss says the victories built up confidence of the English side.
“We gained quite a lot of confidence out of that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 game, purely because it was going back to a formula that has worked for us quite well in the past,” he said.
Strauss believes their ODI series loss against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 can be credited to the absence of their frontline bowlers. The English captain rests full trust in his bowlers, who have now recovered from injuries, and has promised a terrific performance in the
mega tournament.
“We are excited about what’s to come. Once the tournament is under way there is a buzz about things and we want to get off to a good start,” he said.
Strauss however, did not underestimate Netherland’s competence. He said that it was too early to draw any conclusions and refused to predict the ultimate outcome of the match.
“They (Holland) are a side that has some obvious strengths and we need to be good enough to overcome those. If we are 10 per cent off and they have a good day, we are in trouble, so we need to be right on our game,” he said.
Strauss said that none of the teams playing in the World Cup should be taken lightly, as even the non-test playing teams have the capacity to take their opponent by surprise.
Fans await an exciting match between England and Netherland. The match will be played at the Nagpur Stadium.
