England’s injury woes! Ajmal Shahzad ruled out of ICC World Cup 2011

The Poms kept it away from media and officially announced it after the match against the West Indies. According to the England Cricket Board spokesman, the bowler will return home and the extent of injury will be assessed there. This is a recurrence of the injury that he picked up during the tour of Australia in January earlier this year.
The bowler will not play any further part in the ongoing tournament which is being played in the sub-continent. The English team has yet to name a replacement for the bowler. Nevertheless, the Poms have a few options at their disposal. The player who will most likely be called in as Shahzad's replacement is Chris Woakes.

Shahzad is the third player representing England to fly back home during this World Cup. The other two players are Kevin Pietersen and Stuart Broad. Pietersen is suffering from a hernia injury while Broad has a side strain.
English captain Andrew Strauss believes injuries are un-avoidable and all teams suffer from it. He said, “I think it has happened to a lot of the sides in this World Cup – guys going down. It is par for the course in this part of the world.”
Strauss further expressed, “We try to take all the precautions we can do, but these things are likely to strike at some stage and you have to be prepared to ride them out and make sure guys get better quickly enough to be able to play.”
