England’s injury woes continue as Ajmal Shahzad suffers hamstring injury
Ajmal Shahzad has been struck by hamstring pain, adding to England’s problems, during the 5th ODI match at the Gabba.
This adds another player to the ever increasing list of English cricketers injured during their tour to Australia. Chris Tremlett was also ruled out of the 5th ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 because of side strain, and now another pacer in the form of
Shehzad has picked up a hamstring strain.
He picked up this problem during the course of the match, which brought concerns for the English team.
Shahzad had hamstring issues when he was almost half way into his eighth over. This brought him to a halt and later he was asked to bowl his over before leaving the field.
As a result the pacer reduced his only asset, speed, and left the field after his eighth over. The news is that he and Chris Tremlett, will be having their injuries checked up on Monday, with detailed scans to also be an integral part of the agenda.
The dent to England’s bowling attack has now started to cause them to worry, as Steven Finn is the only one left now. Before this, Tim Bresnan had also returned home amidst injury issues.
Chris Woakes was also given a chance in the 5th ODI, taking his T20 form into consideration. No one was too surprised by his inclusion, as he claimed his career best figures of 6 for 45 in Brisbane.
He was recalled in the squad to replace Michael Yardy, and proved to be an effective inclusion in the playing XI. But it is important for England’s front line bowlers to return to form before the start of the World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747
next month.
“We're beginning to run out of bowlers now”, explained the English captain in front of the media.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 comes as the 4th casualty for the visitors since their arrival.
Previously, Stuart Broad was ruled out because of stomach strain, Tim Bresnan has returned home due to calf injury, Graeme Swann has also met the same fate suffering from knee and back pain and Chris Tremlett because of side strain.
Thus, Shahzad adds to the problems of an already concerned England side, and the captain of the English team is now feeling the heat. James Anderson is the only one left as a fit candidate, but a one man army is not enough for the tourists to win the last
two games in the ODI series.
