England’s international scrum half Richard Wigglesworth ruled out of 2011/12 season – Rugby News
St. Albans based English professional Rugby Union club, Saracens, 2011/12 season campaign suffered a major blow as their talented English international scrum half, Richard Wigglesworth is ruled
out of the rest of the season with an injury. Officials at the club have confirmed the end of the season for Wigglesworth in a statement released on Wednesday, October 26.
Saracens Director of Rugby, Mark McCall, has expressed his disappointment on losing Wigglesworth for the rest of their season. He added, “It's a big blow for Wiggy who has been playing so well
for Saracens and has worked so hard in the past 18 months to get himself back in the England side. He made the comments while talking to the Saracens rugby’s websites officials.
Saracens compete in Aviva Premiership and European competitions like the Heineken Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup. The end of Wigglesworth's campaign will definitely affect Saracens’ season. He was
also part of England’s squad of 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC). He played in all of their RWC games except one.
England was knocked out of the 2011 RWC after France defeated them in their quarter-final clash. France ended their RWC campaign as runners up to the title.
McCall has stated that England will miss Wigglesworth during the 2012 Six Nations. He said, “In my opinion he was one of England's stand out players at the World Cup and it's a shame he will
miss the Six Nations.”
Wigglesworth sustained a knee injury, during Saracens weekend Anglo Welsh encounter against the Exeter Chiefs. He injured his anterior cruciate ligament, which requires surgery for a complete
recovery. The surgery and its subsequent rehabilitation will force him to miss the remaining part of the season.  This will also keep Wigglesworth out of the 2012 Six Nations tournament and England’s international commitments during the coming few months.
Wigglesworth will undergo surgery on his Knee on Wednesday.
McCall termed Wigglesworth absence as a major blow for the team.  He denied any chances to recruit any other player for now and expressed confidence in the available scrum halves.
McCall has lined up the duo of Ben Spencer and Neil de Kock to do the job for the club in Wigglesworth's absence. He added that the duo has already delivered some impressive performances in
the season and for this reason he is not considering to recruit another scrum half.
