England’s resurgent rugby team too strong for Wallabies
It was England’s day when they out-classed Australia in their 2nd match of this autumn season played at Twickenham stadium London. The match ended with the score of 35-18 and it is one of England’s biggest wins over the Wallabies.
Ben Young, who is new rising star of England, won the Man-of-the-Match award and helped Martin Johnson achieve a precious triumph under his management. This triumph confirms to the rugby World that England is a big candidate for the next year’s World Cup.
This victory brings a massive sum of delight to England’s rugby fans, who were gloomy after their defeat against All Blacks last week.
England, who was criticized a lot after their defeat last week against All Blacks, and everyone accused their slow start as reason for their failure, was attacking from the start this time.
England’s winger Chris Ashton scored twice for England and helped England to produce their best performance in the last 7 years. He scored 1 try each in both halves, including one stunning try from 80-metres. England’s fly-half, Toby Flood, contributed 25
points to England’s score.
Australia tried to make a come-back and knocked 2 tries in the 2nd half but Australia was not able to come close to England’s score.
England’s manager Martin Johnson, who was under enormous criticism after their first match defeat against All Blacks, is really pleased after this win and said:
"I wouldn't want to get carried away. We played pretty well and we had tempo and momentum in the first-half. We looked pretty good. There were a lot of outstanding performances from the players and I am really happy for everyone. Sometimes it comes off for
you and you get a memorable performance".
England started the game with a plan and showed a real team effort, which helped England to scatter the Australian players into pieces. Australia had a real chance to put England under pressure from the start when they got 2 penalties early in the 1st
half but James O’Connor failed to convert them into 3 points.
England’s defenders, who played poorly against All Blacks, showed big improvement in this game. They thwarted most Australians attacks and never gave them a real chance.
England scored their first try in the early part of the first half. England was leading with the score of 10-0, when Australia scored their first point. O’Connor was the player, who scored the first point for Australia, which he did on penalty and took the
score to 10-3.
Toby Flood from England and James O’Connor from Australia both scored a penalty just before the end of the first half, which took the score to 16-6 at the end of the first half.
England started the 2nd half with 3 more points, when Flood scored a penalty and took England’s lead up to 19-6.
England’s scrum-half, Ben Young, who is still new to international rugby, proved his presence and went 80 meters to score under the posts and helped his team to take a lead of 20 points and the score became 26-6.
Australia tried their level best to equal England’s score and scored a converted try under the posts.
But it was England’s day and their real performer in the match, Toby Flood took the lead to 29-13 when he scored another try.
Australia got another penalty and reduced the difference but 2 more penalties from Flood took England to the winning score of 35-18 and England registered their 2nd consecutive victory over Australia.
