English Assignment?

Question

I have to prepare a ten minute exercise/activity to teach an English term to a class. Such as how we use nouns, verbs etc. Does anyone have any ideas? I have to talk the majority of the time. It has to be for the Third Grade level. Thank You!

I agree with the jumping around thing for verbs, I remember once when I was younger a teacher asked a student what is a verb they said they didn't know, she jumped up and down saying "hello what am I doing"

she was at least 6 months pregnant at the time and said he should never forget that

say a definition and ask them if its a noun,pronoun,ver,.etc etc

have them do things like jump around, stand up, sit down, etc. to show verbs.

and then explain a verb is what you do.

third graders would love the opportunity to get out of their chairs to learn and they will retain more than if you were just talking.

make sure its challenging and interactive or they'll get board

like if you had them make a sentence (as a class) and then write it on the board then you point to each part of the sentence and explain the name of it and what it does and how it interacts with the rest of the sentence then have them make a new sentence

pick one child-  use his name as noun.'

make him pick an action to have him choose a verb.- and the next kid. Make THEM use up ten minutes.  Each kid will learn that their name is a noun and also each kid picks an action for the verb. It's a start.
