English County Cricket Season 2011: Who is in? Who is out? – (Part I)
English county season 2010 has reached its end with Nottinghamshire, Sussex, Warwickshire and Hampshire winning all the championships.
The recently concluded season has seen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 lost their Division One status after having finished the season at the bottom.
The 40-overs ODI tournament, Clydesdale Bank 40 was won by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 Bears, who defeated Somerset by three wickets in the final played at Lords. The South African born, Neil Carter played a key role in bagging the Bears this title. His prolific performance
was duly rewarded when he was recently named as the Professional Cricketers Association's Player of the Year.
On the other hand, Friends Provident T20 championship ended with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 lifting this year’s trophy. Planning for next year’s campaign is already in progress. The counties are looking to grab the best available cricketers in the market while they are also
dropping their least performers in the process. Some of their players are seeking better counties as well.
Derbyshire has signed in three new players – Luke Sutton, Mark Turner and Matt Lineker – for its 2011 season while dropping http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Sadler-c1721 and Tom Lungley. Luke Sutton would be returning to Derbyshire after a gap of almost
five years. The 33-year-old had earlier spent six seasons with the county before moving to Lancashire.
He has also captained Derbyshire in 2004. Now, after spending five years with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Morris-c68398, is expecting Sutton’s addition to be a boost for the side. "Adding a player
of Luke's undoubted quality and experience will be an excellent boost for the team next season. I am doubly pleased with the signing because I know that Derbyshire means a lot to Luke and I believe our members and supporters will also be thrilled to see him
back."
Meanwhile, the fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, had been offered a new deal by Somerset but he seemed to be in search of opportunities to play first-team
cricket. Turner found Taunton quite hard to boom and did not appear in even a single first-class game this season.
Among the players who wouldn’t be with Derbyshire in the next season is Chris Roger, who has found his future with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784.
Rogers, who has captained the side for two consecutive years after taking the charge from Rikki Clarke, was Derbyshire’s player of the year in 2009. The all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Wagg-c1506 had also been with Derbyshire since 2005 after being sacked by Warwickshire following
his 15-month ban which he was served with after his positive test for cocaine. Lastly, another fast bowler, Tom Lungley also failed to get his contract renewed for the 2011 season.
