English County Cricket Season 2011: Who is in? Who is out? – (Part II)
Contd…..
Neil Killeen and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785.
Killeen announced his retirement on 4th September 2010 and Durham's Clydesdale Bank 40 clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 at Chester-le-Street on the same day proved to be his final appearance for the county. But, he would still continue as part of Durham's coaching
staff.
While commenting on the matter, Killeen said that opting to retire was really a tough decision for him but at the same time he was excited about his future prospects with the club as part of its coaching staff. "It was a tough decision to call time on my
career but I'm incredibly excited about the opportunities ahead of me especially those that will see me continue to work alongside some of the quality talent we have here at Durham," said Neil.
The 34-year-old, also nicked as Killer, started his first-class career with Durham back in 1995 as a right-arm medium fast bowler. His more than one hundred first-class appearances for the club earned him 1302 runs and 262 wickets with a career-best 7 for
70 at an average of 31.35. He also played 226 one-day games for Durham while picking up 304 wickets with the best performance of 6 for 31. In 45 T20s, he compiled 88 runs and picked 47 wickets.
Durham’s Chief Executive, David Harker praised Killeen’s contributions for the county saying "Neil's contribution to Durham CCC has been one of real dedication, on and off the field. We have been lucky to have him in our set up and while it's sad to see
him retiring, we're pleased that he will maintain his links with the club." Neil Killeen also expressed his gratitude for the players and management of the county.
Meanwhile, Will Gidman would team up with his elder brother, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 in 2006 and was playing regularly in its Clydesdale Bank 40 squad this season
before an ankle injury ruled him out of the remaining season. Will stated that he spent some good time with Durham and his aim behind leaving the county was to grasp the other best cricketing opportunities available.
"I’m keen to push on to try to ensure regular first class appearances and hopefully I’ll be able to significantly contribute to the side at Gloucester.  I’m really excited about making the move but I’ll always have fond memories of my time up in the North
East.” Moreover, Durham County Cricket Club’s Head Coach, Geoff Cook praised Will’s stint with the club saying: “Will has been an enthusiastic and committed member of our team but due to the depth of the squad there hasn’t been the opportunity for him to break
into our four day side. I hope his move to Gloucester gives him the chance to demonstrate his undoubted skill.”
Will Gidman made only one first-class appearance for Durham while he also played 18 one-day matches.
