English County Cricket Season 2011: Who is in? Who is out? – (Part IV)
Kent County Cricket Club has released two of its players, James http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hockley-c63280 and Phil Edwards with immediate effect while Danish-born pacer Amjad Khan was unable to agree terms with the club for a new deal and instead signed newly-promoted Sussex on a three-year
deal.
With the three players leaving http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 losing its Division One status for the next season.
The 31-year-old right-hand batsman James Hockley was released by Kent on 11th August with immediate effect. Hockley, who made his first-class debut in 1998, enjoyed two stints with the county. After making 30 first-class appearances,
Hockley compiled 804 runs at an average of 18.27 with a highest of 82. Hockley scored only one century for Kent against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 in 2002 in the C&G Trophy.
On his departure from the county, team director at Kent, Paul Farbrace, said: "I would like to thank James for the contribution he has made to Kent cricket. He has been an excellent squad player and worked hard in his second attempt at
county cricket, after a period out of the game. The time is now right for him to move on and concentrate on his teaching career."
Two weeks after releasing James Hockley, Kent showed the door to pacer Phil Edwards. Edwards was also released by the county with immediate effect. The 26-year-old Phil Edwards, who had made his first team debut for Kent during the
2009 season, was second team regular with Kent this season. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Farbrace-c81060 also thanked Edwards for his contribution to the county during his limited stint with the club. Kent team director wished Edwards good luck and expected that the pace bowler would be
successful in the rest of his career. "He wants to stay in the game so we wish him well and hope that he is successful in his future career,” said Farbrace.
Philip http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Duncan-c54739 Edwards, born on 16th April, 1984 is a medium-fast bowler. He played five first class matches for Cambridge University in 2004 and 2005, picking up five wickets at an average of 99. Since then, Edwards has made several
appearances in the Second XI Championship for Sussex, Kent, and Derbyshire. In 2009, Edwards made a comeback to first-class cricket when he played for Kent against Loughborough UCCE.
Kent would be missing prolific reverse swinger Amjad Khan next season as he has found interest in next season’s Division One county http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852. The county topped Division two this season making it to Division One in the 2011 season.
Amjad’s genuine pace and reverse-swing makes him an inspiring prospect for Sussex Sharks. Coach of Sharks http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Robinson-c74734 has hailed Amjad’s inclusion into the squad. Robinson called him a potential match-winner across all formats of cricket.
"Amjad has genuine pace and is a potential match-winner in all formats of the game," he said. “He will be a good spearhead to complement our other exciting young bowlers."
Amjad Khan, who missed a majority of the 2010 season due to injury, was sad to leave the county he played for nine years. "My nine years with Kent have been fantastic and it was a wrench to leave, but I have come to the point in my career where I need a
new start and a fresh challenge.
