English Cricket's future?

I think that KP is most likely the right man for the captaincy, but good sides need a clear deputy-captain so he can work with the captain and achieve a similar sort of respect from the squad. We need a vice-captain to be named. I say Strauss should get it or Robert Key. Also, we need two wicket-keepers to be consistently named and they should be good at keeping and batting if possible. I pick Chris Read and Matt Prior, please give your opinion. Another thing is we need someone else playing at number three with KP at four, Bell at five, Freddie at six and Read/Prior at seven. As number three, I would pick Key or put KP at three, Bell at four and Shah at five. Shah deserves test cricket. As for the bowlers, Monty is not quite good enough for me and I would pick Swann, as he can bat at number eight as well. Then, Simon Jones/Hoggard, Harmison and Jimmy Anderson. My last point would be that selection should be reviewed overall and changes made. Thanks for reading and please make your points, too.

  1. England's future is looking good so far. They're batsmen are finding form and bowlers are bowling really well. They're gonna be a force to be reckoned with come next ashes!

  2. Given the number of South Africans playing in England as non-overseas players, it won't be long befor England have a team full of South Africans, and KP can conduct his team talks in Afrikaans.

England have a policy of not selecting an official vice-captain. Strauss is probably recognised as KP's deputy, but it may be an idea to start grooming Alastair Cook for the job, so that when KP steps down in four or five years (or perhaps ten!), someone is ready to take over from him.

As for two wicketkeepers: Why? We only need one, and can't even decide on that.

I agree that KP should bat at three, we need a run machine there, not am accumulator.

I don't agree with Swann being bette rthan Panesar. But more pressure needs to be put on Monty for his place.

  3. Whatever you think of KP, he's full of confidence! He announced after England's win over SA that they(England) will win the Ashes back next year.I guess that's one thing they do need, confidence.I have no idea who should be VC, but your idea seems reasonable.
