English Greyhound Derby Friday previews

Williamhill.com greyhound derby heat 12

Irish trainer Seamus Graham's main hope of a Derby success, according to the bookmakers, is with Mesedo Blue, who won the Shelbourne Puppy Derby last year. He was fancied to go well in the Irish Derby in August but was eliminated in the third round. His form since has been sketchy and he is not one to trust with odds on favouritism. One to take him on with is ROMEO ACTIVE who has been given a plum draw from trap five.

Heat 13

The winning mentality is crucial in any sport and Swindon Arc trophy winner FARLOE TITAN will be full of beans for heat thirteen. The selection has won five from his last eight races and has Bell View Laurels and Steel City final places to his name. November Weather, who flopped in the Scottish Derby, can return to form and push the selection close.

Heat 14

The middle traps look set to dominate in heat 14 as last year’s Derby runner-up FEAR ZAFONIC (nap) returns to the track where he came so close last year. Although he has been beaten six times when going off an odds-on shot since his Derby venture, his trial run has suggested that he may even have improved, which is a daunting prospects for all his rivals. Forest Boss and Little Gaffer should make up the first three, drawing four or five lengths clear of the field.

Heat 15

Liz McNair is most definitely a trainer in form. Successes in over forty open races this season were topped off with a win in the bettor.com Peterborough Puppy Derby with Total Reality and SHANEBOY ROBBY can maintain her fantastic form in heat fifteen. The selection is hugely inexperienced with only eight races to his name but showed a quick turn of foot in the heats to suggest that the Wimbledon track may suit him.

Heat 16

Probably the most competitive heat of the night with valid arguments being made for all six dogs. The tentative verdict goes to EYE ON THE TEMPO. Will go off a big price on the night but is more than capable of qualifying into the latter stages of the competition. Has a good draw in trap one and has the Mark Wallis factor on his side.

Heat 17

Mark Wallis’ unexposed runner Directors Wit is an interesting prospect who has only had seven career runs and brings the unknown factor to the table. He was a finalist in a high class Monmore Puppy Derby and could be one of the lesser fancied Wallis runners that progresses into the latter stages. But preference for this heat goes to Blue Riband finalist CAMDEN BERT, who stumbled in the final to finish a long way last but has the ability to put a successful run together in this competition. The only reservations would be that he has been sleeping from the traps in four of his last five races.
