English Greyhound Derby first round previews - Friday heats 18-23
Heat 18
Charlie Lister runs Jordansoilutions, who was the ante-post favourite for the Scottish Derby before his first round elimination. He has failed to hit the heights of last season where he ran Eye Onthe Storm very close in the Eclipse final, but still should have enough in the tank to progress to the quarter final stages. But preference in this heat will go to GIVE ME SOME LUCK who had an impressive campaign in last year’s Wimbledon Puppy Derby and ran a cracking trial last week. He can go well at a juicy looking price.

Heat 19
In one of the weakest heats of the evening it may prove wise to side with the early pace in the race as a quick break from the traps could be hard to peg back. COOLVANNY ROCK is familiar with the surroundings at Wimbledon as he has trialed there more than ten times, and his split times suggest he has the early pace in this heat.

Heat 20
Bridge Man ran a cracking trial race last week (28.71secs), but is a rather inconsistent type and with bundles of pace coming from the inside traps, he may find it hard to dominate from trap six. TEN LARGE DOWN is the class act in the race and dominated the English Puppy Derby scene last term, winning the Racing Post juvenile and the Northern Puppy final. He looks set to cruise through this heat barring no unlucky breaks and around the 33-1 mark looks a great price to make the final.

Heat 21
When searching through greyhound form, the term QAW is a comment that proves popular with many punters. WESTMEAD GRANT always seems to attract support purely for that reason; he has been quick away from the traps in ten from sixteen starts. This heat looks his to lose as he comes up against competitors who have been seriously out of form this season. If Farloe Razl can return to the form which saw him progress to the Nottingham Puppy Final last term he may be a big danger to the selection.

Heat 22
Scottish Derby semi-finalist Droopys Kentucky lines up for trainer John Wright but despite making good progress in Scotland never really performed to the standard that the achievement suggests. It could prove profitable to side with ORAN LEGEND who ran very well in his trial race, clocking 28.84secs.

Heat 23
The final heat of the night sees the reappearance of the Carly Philpott trained NAMBISCO, who romped to success in the Scottish Derby in April. The selection is one step closer to winning the £1m offered by bettor.com to complete the Triple Crown (Scottish, English and Irish Derby successes). He is a 14-1 shot with most bookmakers to win the Wimbledon showpiece but that looks extremely short considering he hasn’t proved himself against the higher class dogs in this country. He should have too much in the locker in this heat but one that may go well at a good price is Romeo Surfer, who has the ability to be brilliant one day and disappointing the next.
