English Hockey player Natalie Seymour optimistic for donning colours in 2012 London Olympics
Natalie Seymour, the 23-year-old English hockey player hailing from Canterbury, is quite optimistic to get a place in the Great Britain’s women hockey squad which is scheduled to partake in the 2012 Olympics.
She is part of the 32-member probable’s list, which is currently getting practice in the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom. They all are running in the race towards a common goal that is to earn a victory for the country.
She is not only a hockey player but a student of London Metropolitan University in the Psychology Department, who brilliantly managed the sport with the education. Speaking to the media about the training programme, she was of the opinion that they were
putting every effort to show her best. However, this is a stern competition to get a place in the national side for the Olympic tourney.
She stated, “We are all pushing each other, which is great because the competition for places will only make the best team go to London and that's really what we are all aspiring to. We are in an environment where we are used to selection and when you don't
get selected for things it's really tough. But we have to be safe in the knowledge that the coaches are going to pick the squad that they think will win a medal in London.”
Seymour spent her early age in Maidstone and showed interest in numerous games from a very early age. However, she finally picked up hockey as her future game when she entered into the sport at the age of 13.
She believes that it is matter of a great honour to be part of the training programme and is receiving extensive facilities in this regard. She stated that hockey require fitness comprised of all aspects. To meet the physical fitness, one have had good stuff
related skills, health, speed and mental strength, she added.
It is vital to mention here that she belongs to a sport-loving family. Seymour praised the role of her mother saying that she had driven her across the country to various hockey tournaments and academies. She remembered her childhood when her mother had
brought her to various games in one-day in order to aware her all the sports.
Commenting on her chances to become part of the Olympic squad, Seymour was of the opinion that one go every day for training to get a place in the final line-up. Out of 32 probable players, everyone wanted to be part of the medal-winning squad, she continued.
She was of the view that she is concentrating on her daily practice rather worrying about selection for the final squad. In her view, one could not focus on current things if she goes for thinking too far away. It was quite thrilling when many people or
working to get a common thing at the same time, she maintained.
For getting a place, one should not only good herself but for the team, as she would be part of the squad. Those are the things which really matter in her selection in the Olympic squad. Though, Seymour has had a dream from long ago, it will entirely depend
how she will impress the selectors with her game. The selectors definitely will pick up a squad comprised of best names out of 32 probable players in order to lift the gold medal. It is completely up to Seymour how she performed in the training session which
will give her a chance to contest the Olympics.
