English Premier League, Fabregas Doubtful Over United Clash
Young Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is not entirely sure if he will be fit enough to lead his side against Manchester United in the upcoming title deciding clash over the weekend. Arsenal are a point ahead of Manchester United, who have a game in hand, and
anything less than a win will cause the Gunners to lose their lead at the top of the English Premier League and make the title race more open.
The Spanish international suffered a hamstring injury during the 2-0 defeat to Braga in the Champions League over two weeks ago and has not featured for the London side since then. However, his absence has not been too bad for Arsene Wenger’s side, who reached
the top of the Premier League, for the first time this season, successfully ending Chelsea’s dominance.
Fabregas spoke ahead of the Champions League clash against Partizan Belgrade, which was also a crucial fixture, a place in the last 16 on the line. After a half hearted performance, Arsene Wenger’s side finally came through and confirmed their place in the
next round of the European competition. Having gotten past that obstacle, Fabregas was focused on the challenges ahead.
He was regretful to reveal that he may not be able to feature in the clash against Manchester United, he said while speaking to reporters,
“With regards to my comeback, we will have to wait a little longer before we know anything. I have been outside running for a couple of days now and it feels good - the sensations are okay, but I haven't gone at 100% yet.”
The Spanish midfielder said he was looking for a long term solution to his hamstring injury, he added,
“For now, we keep working. It is feeling better every day, but the thing is to find a solution so that the problem doesn't return, so we are looking at plenty of things. Maybe a bit of rest helps, but is also a case of discovering the source.”
The Arsenal captain disclosed that he would like to lead his side against United, but admitted that he would not want to play if there was a chance of making the injury worse. He said,
“I would like to be fit for the Manchester United game, but we will see. I will only be there if my hamstring is completely fine, because I do not want to go up there and see it recur.”
