English Premier League, a weekend to live by
It was truly a weekend for the record books in the English Premier League as upsets galore occurred in English football’s premier division.
Ever since Manchester United lost the 2008 UEFA Champions League final to Barcelona, many pundits had submitted to the belief that the English Premier League had been usurped as the foremost football league in football.
Indeed in the summer of 2009, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 left the English Premier League giants Manchester United for Real Madrid in what was seen as scales tipping towards European football.
Ronaldo was English Premier League’s marquee player. He was also one of the few selected footballers, who had won the FIFA World Player of the year award, whilst playing in the English Premier League.
Ronaldo’s departure was seen as a loss for the English Premier League as the Portuguese winger was not only a standout player for Manchester United but he was and still is an entertainer of the highest order.
The club season of 2009-2010 was a low one for the English Premier League as the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea exited the UEFA Champions League early.
United lost to Bayern Munich whereas http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 failed to progress past the group stages of the competition.
In the summer of 2010, the English national team was absolutely woeful in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello’s men by four goals to one, at the round of
sixteen.
Nonetheless, the latest league weekend has gone a long way to cementing English Premier League’s reputation. No doubt, that Spanish Primera Division has more marquee names such as Kaka, Benzema, Messi, Iniesta and Ronaldo, but it is the English Premier League
where all the action is at.
In simple words, English Premier League is the most entertaining league in the world.  In matches that took place over the past weekend, the Premier League table has taken quite an incredible shape. In the 10 matches that were aired live on television on
the weekend, a total of 43 goals were scored in the English Premier League. Meaning, on average, 4.3 goals per match were seen in the English Premier League.
Not only that, some season defining moments were also seen over the weekend. Manchester United’s 29 match unbeaten run came to an end due to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mick McCarthy’s Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Arsenal were leading their tie against Newcastle United by four goals at the half time break but Newcastle United fought back to earn a four all draw against the Gunners.
Tottenham were on the verge of bidding farewell to their UEFA Champions League hopes for the 2011-2012 season but a last minute goal against Bolton gave them a 2-1 win over the Lancashire side.
On Sunday, Chelsea lost their 7th league match of the season as they were bested by Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool side, who managed to silence the buoyant crowd at Stamford Bridge. All in all it was a boisterous weekend. Most importantly, the results
have changed the English Premier League table for the better.
Manchester United just have a four point lead over Arsenal now.
Moreover, the bottom four teams of the English Premier League, three out of which are in the relegation zone already, are separated by only three points.  An unpredictable weekend has given a different turn to the league now as not only is the title race
wide open but the race for survival as well.
Crucially enough, Premier League won fans over at the weekend with an attacking style of play which garnered goals in return, a true feast of entertainment for a football fan.
