English Premier League: 11 Conclusions from Match Week 23
1. Gerard Houllier is catching up Avram Grant in the sack race. Well that is only for the second place finish, since Roy Hodgson won the race well and truly.
2. Teams need only 10 good minutes of football against Liverpool. That is what Everton did and came away with a 2-2 draw. They were completely battered by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Agger-c9884 before the start of the 2nd
half, led to 10 minutes of shambolic defending and Everton led 2-1 after that. Although Liverpool did come back but they will be kicking their heels for letting slip a great chance to grab all three points.
3. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier might be a touch unlucky if he beats Avram Grant in the sack race. His side are the unluckiest team in the league, after hitting the post 3 times in the Midlands derby, they now top the Premier league ‘hit the post’ charts. 13 is the unlucky
number, especially when you consider that they have only scored 24 times this season.
4. How many central midfield ‘one season wonders’ have premier league produced over the last couple of years. Apart from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Flamini-c24685 from previous
seasons and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 all spring to mind after this weekend.
5. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114 (ahh..Not really Poulsen).
6. Alex McLeish needs to sit down with Alexander Hleb and explain to him that he is not at Arsenal anymore, this is BIRMINGHAM. We don’t pass and move and we shoot from distance (mainly because we can’t create a shooting opportunity from inside the box).
7. Why is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 Liverpool’s no.2 penalty taker? Torres was the first choice penalty taker at his previous club but he isn’t even 3rd choice here. Strange, when you consider he needs goals to get his confidence back.
8. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Agbonlahor-c14288 a goal which surely would have sealed the game for Villa. Birmingham who are second bottom in Premier League Top goal scoring teams can’t afford to concede such silly goals.
Luckily, they avoided it this time around.
9. Top class fullbacks are difficult to find these days but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Walker-c21566 have performed brilliantly as old fashioned fullbacks this weekend. Kelly has pushed Johnson on the left and those who wish to see Johnson on the right wing may have
their wish granted as soon as Kenny Dalglish finds a decent Left back. Having said that, Johnson has actually done better at left back than he has being doing in his more natural position. He worked brilliantly (almost solely) on the left flank and played
a big part in Liverpool’s first goal of the game against Everton.
10. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 ran past him without any trouble for the
rest of the match.
11. After 4 draws on Sunday, teams near the drop zone and at the top of the table would be the happiest. Arsenal, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester City, all won their games on Saturday and saw their title rivals draw against each other. This means that both Manchester
United and Tottenham Hotspur have dropped two points and the rest have closed that gap on them.
