English Premier League: A Dozen Facts and Figures in EPL till the 6th week (Part 1)
With the 6th week of play ending in the English Premier League many interesting events on the stage of the world’s biggest and longest drama have already taken place.
Many fascinating proceedings leading to the flashy and thrilling performances have been witnessed till this moment. Similarly there are many facts and figures that are worth taking a look at from the past weeks in Premier League.
The game of numbers that matter:
1. 13 - The total number of seasons that the Manchester United player, Michael Owen has scored in are now
13 which is a rare accomplishment.
The Red Devil started his career at Old Trafford in the summers of 2009 in a surprise move as the 30 year old striker had initiated his professional footballing career from Liverpool Football Club.
Liverpool is a club that has remained anything but friendly since the first time the two teams met. While both the clubs share the same number of English Premier League titles; that is 18 there rivalry goes far beyond boasting
silverware in their trophy cabinet.
While Manchester United has been more of a dominant force than Liverpool, ironically for the past 13 years or seasons the arrival of Sir Alex Ferguson and his development and progress at Old Trafford has kept the Merseyside club
on their edge.
Bitter hatred between the clubs continues and therefore when the Red bred Owen’s change to Red Devils was an outrage on which his old Liverpool fans lambasted against him for obvious reasons.
Now at Manchester United, even though the player does not possess his old form and valour but nonetheless he has been a crucial addition to the team with his pace and finishing abilities he is still unparalleled.
2. 77 - The Magpies, Newcastle United made their long awaited return to the Premier League this season after being relegated. Last season they topped the Championship occupying the first position and
as a result they have been promoted to the most glorified League of England.
Currently being managed by Chris Hughton, the Toons are looking forward to make a comeback in the Premier League. Their owner Mike Ashley and director Derek Llambias have commented that they are hoping the club is steadily improving
and they are very optimistic about its future.
Right now the club is at the 10th position in the Premier League, having gained 7 points from 6 games. They will now however have to focus more on their offensive capabilities as their ability as their penalty taking
capability has been saving them so far.
They have recorded a 77% success rate in taking their penalties. This fact is evaluated form the 53 matches the club has won since their break into the League in 2000.
