English Premier League: Arsenal set to sell Eduardo
Arsenal are prepared to part ways with their Croatian striker, Eduardo Da Silva. Eduardo’s football career has gone downhill ever since he sustained one of the most brutal leg injuries in club football.
The Brazilian born Eduardo has seen a reduction in the game time he has been given during his career at Arsenal. The Brazilian born-Croatian striker joined Arsenal in 2007 from Dynamo Zagreb for a fee of around 7.5 million pounds.
Eduardo’s career threatening injury came during a premier league encounter between Birmingham and Arsenal F.C. Mathew Taylor; the player who tackled Eduardo, led to the breakage of the strikers fibula and a gross dislocation of his left ankle.
Eduardo’s injury was one the worst injuries in the history of the English Premier League. Eduardo had just started to impress the gunners before his injury, as they were pushing towards the premier league crown during the 2007-2008 club football season.
Taylor’s tackle on Eduardo was so violent that Sky sports, the major sports broadcasting channel in England didn’t even show replays of the injury on national television. Eduardo immediately had corrective surgery on his ankle and his leg to rectify the damage that he had sustained because of the tackle and made a remarkable comeback on the 19th of February 2009. Eduardo spent a little over a year in recovery.
Even though Eduardo scored a penalty during his comeback match for Arsenal, he suffered more bad luck as he injured his hamstring at the end of the game. Eduardo has truly never been able to reproduce his pre-injury form and some of the arsenal fans have blamed his failure to do so on the life threatening injury he suffered because of Taylor’s tackle.
Despite signing a new long term contract with Arsenal in November of 2009, Eduardo has not been able to impress Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger. And according to recent reports, the striker is on his way out of Arsenal regardless of the fact that he signed a new contract with the London club, less than a year ago.
Arsenal signed Chamakh from Bordeaux earlier on in the presently open summer transfer window. This move was seen my many as an attempt to replace Eduardo, who looks to be destined away from the club. Shakhtar Donetsk’s coach Mircea Lucescu has come out and said that, his club wanted to buy Eduardo before he moved to Arsenal in 2007.
He also added that, things have not exactly gone Eduardo’s way during his stay at Arsenal but he is still a top quality player and a good marksman. Mircea also said that, his club is aware of the fact that Eduardo sustained a serious injury thus there might be a lot of risk involved in signing the Croatian striker. Eduardo’s move to the Ukrainian club has already been sealed.
Eduardo’s national team coach, Slaven Bilic said that he had spoken to Eduardo about his move to the Ukrainian club Donetsk. He said that the striker was happy to move to Shakhtar. Bilic also stated that, Eduardo has the capability to return to his best if he plays regularly for his new club in Ukraine. He also emphasized the importance of playing UEFA Champions League football, something that Donetsk will be doing next season.
