English Premier League: Arsene says Fabregas’s transfer talk has to stop
Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger has come out and said that the transfer speculation surrounding Fabregas has to stop after Barcelona’s new club president Sandro Rossell came out and admitted that Fabregas might not come to Barcelona in the present transfer window.
In his comments, Rossell had stated that Arsenal are asking a price that is too high for Barcelona right now. He elaborated by saying that, it was only a matter of time before the Catalan born player comes back Barcelona F.C. Fabregas spent his youth in Barcelona’s youth academy but left because of a lack of first team opportunities. His transfer to Arsenal F.C in England signaled a start of a new stage in the Spanish midfielder’s career.
At Arsenal, Fabregas quickly cemented his place in the first team after Arsene Wenger sold Patrick Viera to Juventus shortly after Cesc Fabregas’s arrival at the London club. Fabregas, who is now Arsenal’s club captain, is the most treasured and adored player at Arsenal right now. Wenger, who brought the player from Barcelona to Arsenal in the summer of 2003, has recently urged the media and Barcelona players to stop giving comments about Fabregas’s possible move back “home”.
Wenger said that, there was a lot of un-needed talk regarding Fabregas’s transfer. He stated that reading such stories was not pleasant for everyone at Arsenal and he also said that such stories had to stop now. Wenger further added that Cesc Fabregas is the captain at Arsenal right now. He said that the Spanish midfielder is quite important to Arsenal at the moment and that is why the club is not entertaining any offers for the player.
Arsene Wenger has not won any trophies at Arsenal in the past five years and one of the reasons for Fabregas’s possible move back to Barcelona is the lack of success at Arsenal. Despite playing attractive football, Wenger’s side has failed to achieve any on-the-field success. Wenger elaborated on the Fabregas transfer saga by saying that, it was never a problem of finances for the club implying that the transfer could not have been influenced by a higher bid in any way.
He also added that it is very important for Arsenal that they don’t surrender whenever a similar club comes asking for their players. He said that Arsenal always maintained that they did not want to indulge in any sort of talk about their captain’s possible transfer to Barcelona.
Arsene Wenger went onto say that he believes that Fabregas loves Arsenal as a football club. He elaborated by saying that the club had always treated Fabregas affectionately ever since his arrival as a 16 year old from Barcelona’s youth team. He further added that, Arsenal just want Cesc to stay at the club for next season.
Arsene’s own future at Arsenal has been a topic of speculation, as his current contract at the club runs out in 2011. Arsene said that no one can question his commitment to Arsenal F.C at the moment and he also added that it is important, that he himself feels he is doing a good job at the London based football club.
