English Premier League: Blackburn vs Chelsea Match Facts
Chelsea are currently top of the league, with 25 goals from nine games. The Blues have only suffered one defeat this season and drawn one game. They have yet to concede a goal at Stamford Bridge and will be looking forward to the trip to Blackburn so they
can extend their lead at the top of the table.
Blackburn have a very poor record against the Blues, the Rovers have managed to score just one goal in their last eight Premier League fixtures against Chelsea.
French striker Nicolas Anelka has scored an impressive ten goals in 14 Premier League appearances against the Rovers, more than he has against any other top flight side.
His fellow striker, Didier Drogba also has an impressive record against Blackburn. The Chelsea hitman has scored six goals in his Premier League appearances against the Rovers.
Florent Malouda seems to be getting better with age; the winger has scored seven goals in his last eight Premier League starts he has made for the Blues and is now even with Drogba in his goal tally this season so far.
Blackburn Rovers have only won one of their last 11 fixtures against Chelsea in all competitions. However their one win over the Blues that came in last season’s Carling Cup and that too was on penalties.
Blackburn have had a very poor start to the season, they have only won one of their last eight Premier League games this season.
Chelsea on the other hand have had a flying start, the Blues have gone over 300 minutes without conceding a goal in the Premier League.
According to statistics, out of the eight occasions when a Premier League side has managed more points than Chelsea’s 22 points from nine matches, only two have gone onto win the title, they were Arsenal in 2003 – 2004 and Chelsea in 2005 – 2006.
Blackburn Rovers have hit the fewest shots from open play, 41, while Chelsea have hit the most shots, 96.
Blackburn have rallied the fewest attempts from corners this season in the Premier League, a mere 6.
Blackburn have only won two matches, losing four and drawing three. They have scored only eight goals and conceded some 10 goals. They will try and banish the memory of losing to Liverpool last weekend as they welcome the Blues to Ewood Park.
