English Premier League: Chelsea boss says ruthlessness is important when Blues face Blackburn Rovers
Carlo Ancelloti has come out swinging before his team’s next league encounter as the former AC Milan manager has issued a warning call to his squad of players asking them to keep the foot on the gas if they indeed want to win the
English Premier League title for the second time in a row. Chelsea won the 2009-2010 Premier League season after finishing one point above the runners up, Manchester United. Chelsea have currently got a five point lead at the top of the Premier League, something
that Ancelloti is apparently very pleased about. However, the Italian manager has already stated that his team are not performing to the full of their abilities. A proposition that might be scary for Chelsea’s title rivals for the 2010-2011 season.
Chelsea won their last league match in the Premier League against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Stamford Bridge after the Blues secured the win through a late goal courtesy of Salomon Kalou’s strike. As a result, Chelsea won the
match by two goals to nil. The London club has been guilty of taking their opponents as easy in the past but Ancelloti will be on guard against Blackburn, a team that has a potential to cause an upset on the weekend. After their match against Blackburn, Chelsea
face Liverpool at Anfield, an encounter that is sure to draw some attention.
Ancelloti said in his pre-match press conference today that, we have started the season well but I think we can play better because we played very well in some parts of some games but not continuously, we have to play 90 minutes how
we want to play. We have to improve our play and our intensity. We can't just play for 45 minutes like we did against Wolves. We want to play well for the whole of the match and we haven't been able to do that so far this season."
Surprisingly, Chelsea have failed to win their last two away matches in the Barclay’s Premier League as they lost to Manchester City at the Eastland’s stadium and after that loss they drew against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Ancelloti spoke his mind as he stated, "In the last two games away we didn't score against Man City and against Aston Villa, we had a good away game in the Champions League at Spartak Moscow but it is strange for us not to score away
in two consecutive games in the Premier League. We had a fantastic performance when we won at Wigan 6-0 but we have to be better away." Chelsea will welcome the return of their central defender Alex to the heart of their defense after the Brazilian recovered
in time from a thigh injury. However, Frank Lampard, Benayoun and Ramirez are all set to miss out on the trip to the Ewood Park
Blackburn Rovers have not won in their last three matches in the Premier League and this slump in form has seen them drop to the 17th place spot in the Premier League’s rankings. Something that Sam Allardyce will be looking
to address against Chelsea. This dire form makes the Blues, the favorites to win the match against Blackburn. Regardless, Ancelloti expects the match to be a tough one.
He spoke during his interview as he expressed, “It's very important to maintain that gap on the other teams, Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal are interested in our results and they would like us to lose some points. For this reason it
will be an important game tomorrow. If we are able to win this game I think that we can improve our confidence and we can give disappointment to the other teams."
