English Premier League: Chelsea vs. Liverpool –
Match Review (Part 1)
Portuguese midfielder, Raul Meireles helped Liverpool win against Chelsea to take all three points from the Premier League fixture on Sunday. On the other hand, the newly signed Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 had a very disappointing
start for his new club as he faced his former club at Stamford Bridge. With this victory, Liverpool’s unbeaten run has now extended to five games under their new coach Kenny Dalglish.
It was Liverpool’s second win in seven years at Stamford Bridge. However, the win could not have been possible without Raul Meireles, who scored from a wonderful left-footed volley, which he took midway through the second half
of the game.
The visitors were quite confident while defending away from home. Kenny Dalglish sent out a team that was to outnumber the Chelsea midfield. Liverpool also made sure that their former striker Fernando Torres would not score against
them. The Reds’ captain, Jamie Carragher made sure that the new Chelsea number 9 did not get a single shot on goal. Nando’s performance was summarized in the 69th minute when he was substituted for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266.
As soon as Fernando Torres was off the field, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 stole the spotlight of the show. The Portuguese star continued his outstanding run in the Premier League.
The whole match had its emphasis only on one man, Fernando Torres. The Spanish striker handed in a transfer request to Liverpool to join Chelsea around two weeks back. It was the most expensive transfer deal between two English
teams – 50 million pounds – and definitely, there were expectations from him.
Even though Torres was alleged of betraying the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 fans, he stated that he would not celebrate if he scores against his former club. However, an extraordinary defensive Liverpool side denied Torres of all goal-scoring opportunities.
Carlo Ancelotti looked to take advantage of the home crowd and home ground. When the game started, the line-up that the former Milan coach sent was totally attacking. It looked like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 were in to give Stamford bridge a treat
yet again while playing against Liverpool. However, the attacking line-up that looked as if it would rip the Reds’ defence apart did not really work out for the Chelsea tactician.
The three strikers that were played by Carlo Ancelotti were simply not gelling well together. Instead of playing each other, they tried to find the back of the net themselves. Liverpool’s goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 barely had to make
a save, though it would not have been possible without Kenny Dalglish’s three prominent centre-backs; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Agger-c9884 and Martin Skrtel. All three of them were like a brick wall against the Chelsea strikers and did not let them penetrate through
to find the back of the net.
