English Premier League: Conclusions from Manchester United’s draw against Bolton( part 1)
Manchester United went into their game with Bolton, looking to pick up three easy points, which would help them leap frog Arsenal and take over the second spot in the Barclays Premier League. However things did not turn out quite the way the Red Devils,
would have wanted them to. After a grueling ninety minutes, United barely managed to pull off a draw against Bolton. Here is a look at some conclusions from the game.
Prior to the match, Patrice Evra, told the fans and the media, that the team needed to cut back on their stupid mistakes and focus on reinforcing their defense. However it was Evra’s mistake that lead to Bolton scoring the opening goal. The defender strayed
off the far post, allowing Zat Knight’s header to float in, from a rather harmless position. In simple words, that could be summed down to be a major failure in the defending by the French man.
Luis Nani, managed to score what could be the goal of the season, this time around. He picked up the ball in his own half, ran past a number of Bolton defenders and then managed to tuck the ball into the far post with ease. Later on in the match he managed
to set up Michael Owen, to score the equalizing goal on the night. After the match, Nani has managed to get six assists and two goals, in six games for United so far this season.
Luis Nani, and Dimitar Berbatov, between the two of them have managed to score twelve of the sixteen goals, that United have managed to get in the oppositions goal. Berbatov however did not have a very good game this time around, He was lively and active
during the first half, but seemed to have gone missing in action in the second.
Wayne Rooney, had one moment of brilliance in the game against Bolton and that was when he played an inch perfect pass, that flew nearly thirty yards or so out. However for the rest of the game, Rooney was back to being his awful self. The player seems to
have fallen deep into a slump and can’t seem to crawl his way back out. He was losing the ball almost every time he laid his feet on it and was misplacing almost every single one of his passes. It was fairly evident in the game, that the player has not managed
to keep his off the pitch affairs, off the pitch.
Manchester United, seem to have a knack for playing their corners to the near post. Almost every corner that Nani took was aimed at the near post and onto the head of John O Shea. The team was successful on a few occasions, when O’Shea flicked the ball onto
the back post. None the less United need to realize, that this type of set piece, won’t always be successful. United need to work more on trying to play the ball deep into the box every chance they get, so that they can capitalize on every opportunity they
get, rather than play a hit and hope corner. amounted to nothing. Giggs isn’t any better, so I’m not singling out Nani, it’s just a general flaw in our game. Beat the first man, put it in the danger area, and see what our taller players can do.
