English Premier League: Contenders for Player of the Season award (part 1)
The English Premier League is only five weeks in, however most experts have already predicted a list of players, who are is strong contention to take home the player of the season award, once the season ends next summer.
Some might argue that it is far too early, to predict who is going to be performing better than the rest, in the coming months. None the less the experts have already correctly shortlisted the players who have won the prestigious honours in the past and
hope to do the same this time around. Here is a look at the players, who they believe will win the award.
Andy Carroll: Newcastle came into the Premier League at the start of this season, after a gruelling struggle in the first division. Most people assumed that the team was not even half as good as it used to be. This point was only reassured
when the team lost to Manchester United. Newcastle however took to their critics strongly and bounced back in the following weeks. They destroyed Aston Villa by a margin of six goals to nil and then went on to beat Everton. There greatest achievement came
when they beat Chelsea midweek in the Carling Cup and ended the teams perfect start to the season.
The player who had been the pivotal figure in the Newcastle side during this hot streak, was their twenty one year old striker, Andy Carroll. Carroll was a rather unknown play, with no one apart from the Newcastle fan’s knowing exactly what he was worth.
The striker has come into his own in the Premier League and has scored a remarkable four goals in the league so far. He has so far scored more goals, then the seasoned strikers that play in the league and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon.
Carroll is a strong, highly talented striker. He even possesses great aerial ability, which is something of a rarity in players these days. The striker has said that he is determined to help Newcastle break back into, the top half on the league and re gain
their status of being one of the best teams in England once again.
The forward is only twenty one years old, which is rather astounding, considering he plays with a level of maturity that players develop late on in their careers. He has a keen eye for goal and doesn’t mind passing the ball if a team mate is in a better
position. Carroll has even managed to replace Joey Barton, as being the most talked about Newcastle United player.
If he keeps his form up, then it is quite inevitable for him to get a call up to the English national side. The national team has been struggling, with players like Wayne Rooney failing to pick up their form and the likes of Jermaine Defoe getting injured.
Due to his young age, he is bound to be around for a long while and can only improve from here on.
However Newcastle should be wary of the danger, that comes with players like Carroll. Europe’s top clubs are currently facing a major lack of quality strikers and it won’t be long before audacious bids are made for the forward. None the less those bid’s
would only aid to the fact that, Carroll is easily one of the best players in the Premier League at the moment.
