English Premier League: Drogba talks up City encounter as Kalou suffers injury
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has set his sights on his team’s weekend’s tie against Manchester City. A match that is bound to be a tough one for both the sides has been further intensified by the war of words that has been started
by the Ivory Coast national team striker. Drogba has been on fire this season for Chelsea and has been involved in most of their goals as a scorer or as an assist maker, along with other players such as Florent Malouda and Anelka, Chelsea have had a fantastic
start to their English Premier League season.
Currently, at the top of the English Premier League table after winning all of their opening five league matches and scoring twenty one goals in the process, Chelsea are the team to beat in the English league. However, many have pointed
towards the fact that Chelsea have had an easy start to the season in terms of their scheduled fixtures which have been against teams such as Wigan, Stoke and West Bromwich, nonetheless, the Blues have been quite impressive thus far in the Premier League.
Talking about Chelsea’s start to the season, Drogba dismissed all the reports suggesting that his team had an easy start to the season by clearly stating that, according to him none of the games that Chelsea played were “easy”. Didier
said that, people say that the games were straightforward because Chelsea ended up winning all of them. He pointed towards the fact that against Wigan, Chelsea struggled in the first half but then went onto win the match in the second half. The former Marseille
player said that, the match against Manchester City will be a good test for Chelsea as it will decide whether the Blues can deal with tougher opposition or not.
After City, Chelsea face Arsenal in their next English Premier League match, an encounter that Drogba has termed as a “big one”. Drogba said that, the next couple of weeks will make up a crucial period of the season for Chelsea. Commenting
on Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table, Drogba said that it is good that his team is leading other contenders by four points but he stressed the fact that Chelsea have to win the up-coming games against City and Arsenal. Drogba assured the fans that the
London club will approach the matches against Arsenal and Manchester City with a winning mentality.
Last season, Chelsea won all of their matches against the so called big three such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. However, they did lose against Tottenham and Manchester City. Drogba conceded the fact that City defeated
his team twice last season and they might pose a challenge to Chelsea’s squad this time as well. Chelsea were knocked out of the Carling Cup by Newcastle United thanks to a last minute goal by Shola Ameobi. It was a disappointing night for the Blues as their
stars such as Kalou, Benayoun and Kakuta suffered injuries during the encounter. Ancelloti spoke about his players after the match and said that Kakuta got injured after a tackle on his leg while Benayoun hurt his half and Kalou his thigh during the encounter.
Ancelloti admitted that these players will miss the next few games for Chelsea, therefore the Blues will have to play, Manchester City on the weekend followed by Marseille in mid-week in the UEFA Champions League and then Arsenal
on the next weekend with a depleted squad and some under twenty ones. After Arsenal, Chelsea face Aston Villa in the English Premier League, something that they will vary off, Carlo Ancelloti will be hoping that his fringe players can raise their game in the
next few weeks as his team goes into what will be a hectic schedule of matches.
