In part four of this relegation contender’s series, West Ham United was analyzed but now it is time to put Wolverhampton Wanderers under the microscope. The Wolves have been unconvincing, to say the least, in the 2010-2011 English Premier League season thus
far.
20. Wolverhampton Wanderers
It can only gets better from here on in for the Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ranked 20th in the English Premier League table, Mick McCarthy’s men are officially the worst team of the season. The Birmingham club has failed to live up to its own bench-mark,
which were set last year as Mick McCarthy led them to a 15th placed finish in the 2009-2010 Premier League season.
After getting their 2010-2011 Premier League campaign off to a flying start with a win against Stoke City on the very first day of the season, Wolves have self destructed in spectacular fashion. However, throughout the season Mick McCarthy’s team has worked
their socks off and in doing so earned themselves praise.
Despite their enormous desire, Wolves have not been able to make up for quality, which they lack in abundance. The fact of the matter is that Wolverhampton are struggling and McCarthy’s team need to feed off the positives in order to spur a revival at Molineaux
stadium. One thing to be noted in Wolverhampton’s season thus far is their stomach for the big game.
Mick McCarthy’s men have stepped up to the plate every time they have been pitted against Manchester City and Manchester United as well as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. This shows that they do have fighting spirit, which will be a crucial factor as the Wolves are
scheduled to play some very important games over the course of the next two months.
Another thing that McCarthy needs to work on with his Wolves is their away form. Out of their 13 away matches, Wolverhampton have won one, drawn one and lost eleven, which puts them at the bottom of English Premier League’s away table.
At home, Wolves have fared a little better. Out of their 13 home fixtures thus far, McCarthy’s team have won six, drawn two and lost five. Wolverhampton Wanderers also need to work on their offensive efficiency. Mick McCarthy’s team has only scored 26 goals
so far in the 26 matches played in the English Premier League. This tally is less than their fellow relegation contenders such as West Brom, West Ham and Wigan Athletic. In the winter transfer window where West Ham broke the bank to bring in some new players,
Wolves complacent and only managed to sign Adam Hammill from Barnsley for £500,000 and Jamie O’Hara on a loan deal from Tottenham.
Looking at Wolverhampton’s remaining fixtures, it becomes evident that the month of May will be a crucial one for Wolves if they are to retain their Premier League status for another season. In the last month of the season, Mick McCarthy’s men travel away
to Birmingham and then host West Bromwich Albion before playing Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 at Molineaux stadium. Mick McCarthy will be aiming for at least six points from his team’s last four matches but it still remains to be seen if Wolverhampton will be up to the task.
Conclusion: Wolverhampton to get relegated come May, 2011.
