English Premier League: Everton 2-1 beat Tottenham Hotspur
Everton got back to their winning ways as they managed an impressive 2-1 victory over title contenders Tottenham Hotspur, who were left thinking at the end of the 90 minutes.
It was Seamus Coleman’s 75th minute goal that stood between the two sides, after a fantastic http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Louis-Saha-c22459 finish was cancelled by an equally brilliant Rafael Van Der Vaart goal. It was an exciting contest at Goodison Park and both sides made plenty
of opportunities to take the match into their advantage but it was the home side who had the last laugh. It seems Everton have finally found the much needed “Spur” to turn their otherwise unconvincing season around and the victory was enjoyed by one and all
in the jam-packed stadium.
It wasn’t all bad for Tottenham Hotspur only, as the current 4th spot contenders http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robbie-Keane-c31215 of what may be the player’s last
appearance for the side, after a possible move to Birmingham City is on the surface. However, it was not a dream farewell for the 32 year old, as the player couldn’t find the equalizing goal for his club.
The match was a good blend of pace and technique. Spurs went close to scoring when Crouch found Van Der Vaart, who then tried a 30 yard lob to trouble the goalkeeper. This was followed by a legitimate penalty appeal from Everton, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-Hutton-c4253 pushed
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208 inside the box. The referee however was not interested. There was insult to injury when Hutton managed a cross on the 11th minute for Van Der Vaart, who then managed a powerful header to give the goalkeeper no chance to stop it.
It was then a roller coaster ride for both sides as both looked to break the dead lock. Youngster Jermaine Beckford had a chance to grasp the lead when he received a good ball from Gallas, but the shot went well over the bar. Everton looked more comfortable
with the ball and managed a brilliant chance after some good play, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Jenas-c18362 was at the right place at the right time to make an important block.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 pass. The striker had already started celebrating, but
the linesman was not amused.
It was clear that David Moyes was looking for the win and the players responded by attacking in number. Beckford managed to slip a good pass to Saha, who was clear on goal. The player cut inside and then unleashed a stinger but was denied by Gomes. The deflected
ball fell towards Coleman, who then managed a missile header to score the winning goal. It could easily have been 3-1 had Ayegbeni Yakubu found himself clean through. The Nigerian, however, took too much time and was dispossessed by the goalkeeper.
It was a very rejuvenating result for Everton, who are now fighting their way back into the top 10 of the Premier League. A poor result for Tottenham, who had the chance to go four points clear of champions Chelsea and now face the undefeated Manchester
United next weekend.
