English Premier League: Evra fears heart attack due to thriller finishes at United
It has been an eventful start to Manchester United’s season so far, throwing away leads, making late comebacks, drawing against teams that you would expect them to beat and missing penalties, the men in red have already accomplished
it all. Evra, who plays at the left back position for the Red Devils came out after the match against Liverpool and told the press that United risk giving themselves a heart attack, given the way they have been performing so far.
Against Fulham in their second English Premier League game, United went up by a score line of two goals to one but then Luis Nani missed a penalty. As luck would have it, Manchester United conceded a late goal in the match and only
came away from Craven Cottage with a single point. Against Everton in their fourth English Premier League match of the season, Manchester United went a goal down in the first half and then rallied back to take a three goals to one lead at the Goodison Park
stadium.
Again, they let their guard slip at the end of the match and conceded two late goals in the injury time of the match much to their own distress. It was a sad state of affairs for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, who have established themselves
in the English Premier League since 1992 as one of those teams who seldom drop points when they are leading a match. In their last English Premier League match against Liverpool, Manchester United were rampant again but wasteful at the same time. They went
two goals up within then allowed Steven Gerrard and Liverpool to bring the score line back to two all. In the end, Dimitar Berbatov’s heroics saved the United, who looked destined for a draw against their struggling rivals.
Patrice Evra told the press after the game that, if Manchester United keep on losing their lead during the English Premier League matches like they have been then it could turn out to be a situation where things get nervous. He said
that, United could finish the game with a heart attack if such situations come too often for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team. Evra revealed that when the score line against Liverpool reached two all, he was not that worried but actually quite unhappy about the fact
that United had let their two goal lead slip.
The Frenchman admitted that, if Manchester United had drawn the game against Liverpool, they would have been in a position to say that they are going to win the league this season for the fourth time in five years. Commenting on United’s
previous slip ups, Patrice said that Manchester United had an accident at Fulham when they gave away their lead and then at Everton as well. He went onto observe that, if United drew against Liverpool after giving up their two goal lead then it wouldn’t have
been an accident but a major drawback which would’ve meant that Manchester United were not hungry enough to win the league.
The ex-Monaco player added that he was oblivious to the reasons as to why Manchester United make their job so hard when it all could have been so easy against Liverpool. He stressed the fact that the players at Old Trafford have to
work together to make sure that doesn’t happen again. He said that players need to make Manchester United “solid” again. A lot of people blamed United’s defence after their recent capitulations against Everton, Fulham and Liverpool. Evra came in for special
criticism at Everton as his mistake on the half way line gave Everton a chance to open the scoring in the tie.
Evra was quick to dismiss the criticism as he stated that, it is not only about defenders but about everyone in the team. He said that against Liverpool, Manchester United gave up their lead against a team which didn’t even have a
shot on target before the first goal went in. The former French national team captain said that such a thing should not happen again ever at the club. Manchester United face Bolton in their next league match while in mid-week they face Scunthorpe United in
a Carling Cup tie where a younger second string of players if expected to feature for the club.
