English Premier League FT Report: Stoke City v
Blackburn – Stoke win by the narrowest of margins
Stoke City were playing host to Blackburn at the Britannia stadium, as both teams got ready to play out a tough, brutal fixture.
Stoke went on to win a highly contested match one goal to nil. The goal came courtesy of Jon Walters almost immediately after the restart for the second half. Blackburn looked to go on the offensive once the goal was scored, but
couldn't find the cutting edge in front of the Stoke City goal.
Neither side was convincing in front of goal and in the end it was a touch of class from Walters that settled the tie on the night.
Stoke managed to gain the most points in the league in the month of September and seem to be looking to run that form into October as well, courtesy of a win off the first fixture of the month.
Blackburn, after tonight’s game, have failed to find the back of the net in four encounters with Stoke. The night’s proceedings could have been very different however if Brett Emerton had managed to slot the ball into the back
of an empty Stoke net; but thanks to a last ditch clearance by Ryan Shawcross, Stoke managed to stay level all the way through the first half.
One man who was a constant thorn in the Blackburn side was Rory Delap. The fullback was present with his trade mark long throws and gave Blackburn a good scare when one of his catapulted throws bounced off the wood work.
Thanks to this win, Stoke have managed to get ten points out of a possible twelve so far - which by all means is brilliant for the team. Stoke are now looking pretty in the seventh and feel that the only way to go from here on,
is up. After watching the team’s performance tonight, very little people would argue with the fact that Stoke can't break into the top five or even the top four of the Premier League. The team is currently ticking the right way and seems to have found the
perfect harmony amongst themselves. This has seen the team go from the new boys in the Premier League to being one of the few teams that inspire fear for their opponents.
