English Premier League: Ferguson says he is happy with United’s squad
Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear that he is content with the current players in his squad at Manchester United. Ferguson has made two signings so far, the first one was confirmed during mid-season, Fulham’s defender Chris Smalling agreed to join United for a 10 million pound transfer fee.
United’s second signing came at the end of the 2009-2010 season when they signed the young Mexican striker Javier Hernandez. Hernandez participated in the World Cup with Mexico and managed to score two goals during the Mexican World Cup campaign.
Manchester United are currently busy with their pre-season tour of Canada, U.S.A and Mexico. United played their first game of the tour in Toronto against their British rivals Celtic. Dimitar Berbatov performed admirably throughout the match, as the Red devils ended up winning by three goals to one. United also gave starts to youngsters such as Jonathan Evans, Chris Smalling, Diouf and Gabriel Obertan.
Manchester United’s next match is scheduled to be played against Philadelphia Union in the United States of America. Sir Alex Ferguson took over at Manchester United in 1986 and has guided the red devils to numerous trophies since then. Ferguson won his first UEFA Champions League in the 1998-1999 season after United scored two late stoppage time goals to defeat Bayern Munich in the final of the tournament.
Ferguson has himself stated that his biggest challenge at the club has been to overcome Liverpool and cementing United as the best team in England. Liverpool are Manchester United’s bitterest rivals. Both the teams play each other at least twice a season in the English Premier League. United lost their Premier League crown to Chelsea last season after the Blues won the league by just a single point on the last day of the season.
Ferguson recently gave an interview during the pre-season tour, in which he expressed his satisfaction with the current crop of players in the Manchester United squad. Ferguson, who is also known as Fergie more affectionately, said that he is not in an position to comment about other clubs and their feelings as far as their own squads are concerned but he said that United are currently quite happy with their squad.
United have constantly been linked with young superstars such as Mesut Ozil at Werder Bremen and Mario Balotelli at Inter Milan. Red devil’s players such as Vidic and Evra have also been linked to a move away towards Spanish giants Real Madrid. Ferguson added to his earlier remarks by saying that, United bought players at the right time of the season and presently United are pleased with their squad condition.
Fergie also remarked that United are currently putting in double sessions as far as training is concerned. He stated that the conditions in U.S.A have been quite helpful for prolonged training sessions. He added that, players have been great in training because they have shown good application and concentration.
The current Manchester United manager concluded by saying that, United are starting to reap the rewards of their training regimes. He said that, the players are performing at the tempo which is expected of Manchester United players.
