English Premier League Footballers Gareth Barry and James Milner tee-off with Robert Rock at Finca Cortesin
Gareth Barry and James Milner, the two infamous Footballers from the English Premier League showed up in the Pro-Am event ahead of the star-studded, Volvo World Match Play Championship and savoured a round of golf with the two-time European Tour winner Robert Rock at Finca Cortesin.
The Pro-Am event which features several of the celebrities from TV and films as well as world renowned sportsmen who are invited to participate in the event in an attempt to raise funds for the charity drive from the event.
Barry and Milner were overwhelmed when they received the call for their selection in the English FA, England’s 23-man squad for the European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine this summer.
Both Footballers lauded the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship winner Rock for his keen interest in the round.
Midfielder Barry said, “It was very enjoyable. It’s a lovely course and James and I were very lucky to be playing with Robert today. He (Rock) gave us a few tips along the way but made us feel comfortable out there on the course. I play at least once a week when the weather is good but living in Manchester it’s not always that nice. I don’t take the golf too seriously – it’s more a relaxing thing”.
Rock is one of the 24-member field gathered at the scenic Finca Cortesin in Spain to attempt for the stellar Match Play title on the European Tour.
Rock who took over the rampaging Tiger Woods in the final round if the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship earlier n the year, has worked as a professional golf trainer.
He said, “Both of the guys were pretty good golfers and we had a good day together”.
Rock will also be hoping to land the difficult Match Play title to strengthen his chances of selection in the upcoming Ryder Cup in October this year.
The bare-headed English golfer is currently short of a few points on the Ryder Cup points table and a strong performance in progressive events can actually enhance his chances for a selection in the event scheduled at Medinah Country Club, Chicago.
