English Premier League – Full time review: Sunderland versus West Ham United (Part 2)
Start of the 52nd minute and the ball fell to Henderson, the scorer of Sunderland’s first goal. The Englishman took a first time shot in an attempt to catch Robert Green off guard in the West Ham goal but he miscued
the shot and the ball ended up out of play for a throw inn. It was an embarrassing mishit for the youthful English national who was understandably disappointed with himself.
In the 55th minute of the match, Sunderland had a good spell of possession as Bardsley ventured forward but the full back was tackled and the ball fell to Wellbeck. In the proceedings the play hit a dead end and
the ball was regained by West Ham.
In the 56th minute, Carlton Cole was penalized for a hand ball outside the Sunderland penalty area, there were calls from the Sunderland crowd for a second yellow card but referee sensibly kept his cards inside
his own pocket with a sigh of relief from the ex-Chelsea striker. In the 57th minute, Richardson surged forward and then cut the ball back for Gyan. The striker apparently miscued his shot as it sailed way over the cross bar, out for
a goal kick for the Hammers.
In the 59th minute, Bent was played in brilliantly by Wellbeck with a first time back heeled pass. However, the English striker was unprepared therefore he just couldn’t get past Upson in the West Ham defence. In
the 60th minute, Boa Morte played in an accurate cross inside the Sunderland penalty area. However, Craig Gordon came off his line to collect the ball to deny the West Ham striker any goals scoring chances that might have emerged otherwise.
West Ham started to come back into the match after the half way mark of the 2nd half. But their main problem was the lack of creativity they had once they got in the final third in front of the Sunderland penalty
area. There weren’t many final passes irritated Avram Grant’s men which was frustrating for the team’s strikers as well as the spectators.
In the 65th minute, Sunderland’s striker Asamoah Gyan was played in by Cattermole. The forward unleashed a powerful shot which was superbly palmed away by Green as the West Ham defence cleared up after his save.
In the 68th minute, West Ham United made two changes as Hinds and Piquionne both came on in place of Kieran Dyer and Luis Boa Morte. In the 75th minute, Sunderland took off Darren Bent, who
had a lack lustrous game. Steve Bruce replaced the striker with Steed Malbranque. In the 89th minute of the match, Scott Parker was booked for a harsh challenge on Asamoah Gyan near the touch line.
Sunderland were given the free kick through which they wasted a bit more time. Thus in the end, the match came to a conclusion with a Sunderland win courtesy of Jordan Henderson’s goal. The final score of the match was 1-0 to the home
side.
