English Premier League: Giggs still considers Liverpool as title contenders
Manchester United legend and their most capped player, Ryan Giggs has said that Liverpool still have what it takes to win the English Premier League title. Giggs is currently part of United’s squad which is on tour to U.S.A, Canada and Mexico for some pre-season friendlies.
Giggs has won a record number of eleven premierships and is currently the most decorated player in the history of English football.  Ryan Giggs who is also known as the Welsh Wizard has won two UEFA Champions Leagues in his career and it regarded by many as the best left winger of his generation.
The 36 year old midfielder told the press, that it will be dangerous to rule out Liverpool as title challengers. Manchester United won three titles in a row from 2006 till 2009 but they lost their premiership crown to Chelsea as they finished second in the last seasons English Premier League.
Liverpool’s best finish in the last decade in the English Premier League has been a second placed finished, which they obtained in the 2008-2009 season. Manchester United won the title that season. Liverpool finished last season as the seventh placed team in the English league and have been suffering from on-the-field as well as off-the-field troubles. Red’s fans have been protesting against their American owners because of their lack of financial input in the Merseyside club.
Liverpool have also recently changed their managers, as they parted ways with Rafael Benitez and replacing the Spaniard with Roy Hodgson. Giggs commented about the change of managers at United’s northern rivals and said that, Liverpool just had a change in management so it will be difficult to say what they are going to do.
The Welsh national said that, two years ago Liverpool were close to winning the league title so one could never write them off. He added that, a team with Liverpool’s history should not be written off easily. Ryan also stated that, Liverpool have won the same amount of titles as Manchester United and that the Merseyside club is a huge outfit.
Giggs also spoke about United’s derby matches with Manchester City and remarking that, everyone was watching the biggest team in the world which is United against the richest team in the world, which is City. The former Welsh international footballer, also stated that he is enjoying his football at the moment as United are on tour to U.S.A and are scheduled to play their next match in Kansas.
He said that, the moment he stops enjoying his football, will be the moment he quits the sport. Giggs also reiterated that, he still wants to improve and told the press that he trains every day. The Manchester United legend further elaborated that, he attended his first pre season training around twenty years ago.
Giggs has made a total of 838 appearances for United and has scored over a hundred goals for the red devils. He is the only player in the world at the moment, to have scored in every English Premier League season since its inception in 1992.
