English Premier League: Grant doesn’t fear dismissal as West Ham prepare to face Liverpool
Avram Grant has come out before his team’s crucial encounter against Liverpool and suggested that he does not fear for his job as West Ham continues to maintain their place in the bottom three of the English Premier League. The Hammers
have had a woeful season thus far in the Premier League despite the fact that Grant was brought in over the summer to improve the club’s fortunes who were in exactly the same situation for most of the 2009-2010 season.
Grant said in his press conference, "We need to deal with the pressure. I don't think you can be in football without pressure. It's good to know everybody shares the vision of the club even at this difficult time. Of course there are areas
we want to improve. What's important for me is the team. I'm not the issue at the moment; I need to do my job for the team."
West Ham have drawn their last three league games against Birmingham, Blackpool and West Bromwich Albion but those three points from three games were not enough for the Irons, as they still reside at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Grant added to his comments by stating, "It's always not easy to play at Anfield, especially when Liverpool need the points. But we have lost just twice in 11 games; we want to continue with that and a little bit more. If we continue to do the right things
- and there are things we could do better - the win will come and we will do everything to get it tomorrow."
However, West Ham will be buoyant about the fact that Liverpool will be without their captain, Steven Gerrard who sustained a hamstring injury in England’s 2-1 defeat to France in mid-week at the Wembley stadium. Liverpool have been justifiably
upset at the treatment of their player as they already had an agreement with the English national team that Steven would only play an hour or so of the match.
Grant went onto say, "I have experience of that. Thomas was injured playing for Germany three days before the season started. He was in very good condition and then he played more than 60 minutes which was not so good. But I was a national
coach for four years so I know the problems for both sides. Everybody has to understand when there is a friendly you have to think twice. Things like that happen in football but I would prefer if it happened in the league, not in a friendly international.
Gerrard is a very good player but Liverpool are a very good team anyway, so we will have a difficult game."
