English Premier League – Half time report: Tottenham Hotspurs versus Newcastle United (Part 1)
Tottenham kicked off the match at White Hart Lane but it was Newcastle United who pushed the home side on the back foot immediately as they continued to capture possession in middle of the park through Joey Barton. Barton then launched a long ball towards
Andy Carroll but the powerful Newcastle United striker failed to connect with the pass as the ball went out of play for a Tottenham goal kick.
In the 17th minute it was Newcastle United who were pushing forward yet again and this time making the drive it was Andy Carroll. The tall forward tackled http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288 inside the Tottenham penalty area but the Spurs defender did well to compete
in the aerial challenge and the loose ball was gathered by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wilson-Palacios-c36948 in the Tottenham Hotspur midfield area.
In the 19th minute, Dawson was in action yet again. He lost no time in the aerial battle with Carroll as the ball went out of play for a Newcastle United corner kick. However the ensuing set piece was woeful by Newcastle and the delivery was
nowhere near the waiting players in Tottenham’s penalty area. In the 20th minute, Tottenham rushed forward and this time it was Tiote who tackled Rafael Van Der Vaart down the right hand side of Newcastle’s defence. The referee spotted the infringement
as he pointed towards a Tottenham Hotspur free kick.
The free kick was taken by the Dutchman himself and he almost forced the Newcastle goalkeeper into a mistake but James Perch was on hand to clear the lines as Newcastle United remained on level terms with Tottenham. In the 22ndminute, Tottenham
thought that they were clean through on goal as Kaboul’s long ball fell to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Pavlyuchenko-c31639 but the linesman raised his flag for an offside and the referee stopped play for a Newcastle United free kick.
Quite disappointingly for Newcastle United, they tried to launch the ball up field towards Andy Carroll yet again but this time Gomez came out of his six yard to box to gather the ball in for Tottenham Hotspur. In the 24th minute of the match,
Gutierrez crossed the ball into the Tottenham penalty area. This time Carroll was successful in getting a touch on the ball as he headed towards the goal but the effort was just over the bar making Tottenham breathe a sigh of relief.
