English Premier League: Harry to challenge for the title with Spurs
Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp has come out and said that Spurs can challenge for the title next season. Harry has been busy during the off-season as he has been trying to sign more players for his Tottenham squad, who qualified for the UEFA Champions League last season.
Harry has previously managed clubs including Portsmouth and Southampton and is known as 'Harry the Houdini' because of his ability to work miracles at football clubs. He is currently working to get Luis Fabiano to Tottenham in an attempt to bring glory to the London club which has been living under the shadow of their illustrious neighbors Arsenal F.C.
Last season, Tottenham finished as the fourth placed team and will be looking to compete in over four competitions this season i.e. UEFA Champions League, F.A Cup, Carling Cup and the Premier League itself. Harry took over at Tottenham in 2008 and has done quite well at the English club.
Redknapp is famous for managing English football stars such as Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Joe Cole. He guided all of these players in the early part of their careers while they were under Redknapp’s management in West Ham’s youth academy.
The Englishman has been a controversial figure in the past as he managed Portsmouth and then left the club to manage their rivals Southampton. He then left Southampton and came back to manage Portsmouth, this merry go round of clubs caused Redknapp’s capability as a manager to come under question.
He is currently despised by a lot of Southampton fans. Harry also admitted that during his childhood he was an avid Arsenal follower but when he took over at Tottenham, he denied all links and said that Tottenham were a big club.
Recently, Redknapp told Skysports that, Spurs only need three or two more players who can make a difference. He added that Tottenham have a big squad right now and there are only tweaks of quality needed in certain areas to improve on the fourth place finish they achieved last season.
The former-Portsmouth manager also stated that, Tottenham want to win the championship in the coming season. He also said that, Tottenham’s fourth placed finish last season was quite impressive and that this is the best chance, they have had in several years to push for the league title.
Harry Redknapp went on to say that, if Tottenham get two or three more players, the sky is the limit for the club and that they will first of all look to maintain a top four finish. Redknapp also commented on losing out on Joe Cole’s signature, who signed for Liverpool instead of Tottenham. He said that a month ago when he spoke to Cole, he wanted to come to Tottenham but after a month, Joe changed his mind and decided to go to Liverpool.
Harry added that, the UEFA Champions League is massive and Tottenham just want to be involved in such a big competition. He said that, Tottenham will have to rotate the players in their squad to get the best out of everybody. The present Tottenham manager said that Spurs have some good players at the moment who can gain experience by playing in the Champions League.
