English Premier League: Holloway backs Adam to keep focus
Ian Holloway has come out in defence of his much maligned captain, Charlie Adam. Adam's form has seen a sudden dip as the veteran midfielder became the villain due to his mistake inside the Blackpool penalty area last weekend, an
error which gifted a goal to Nikola Zigic of Birmingham City.
If this wasn’t enough, the fans have also turned against Adam’s due to reports that the club still owes him some unpaid bonuses. However, the Ian has now revealed that according to him the unpaid bonuses will not affect his captain’s
on the field performances as Blackpool get ready to play their next Premier League encounter.
Latest news paper reports do suggest that Adam is taking his employer to court over the owed money, claiming that he is owed bonuses which were a part of his contract when he signed for the Tangerines way back in August of 2009 from
the Scottish giants, Rangers.
The clause in his contract dictated that he would be eligible for a bonus for every season that Blackpool stayed in the Championship. Blackpool not only managed to do well in the Championship but also gained promotion to the English
Premier League as a result of their sixth place finish in the last Championship season of 2009-2010.
Blackpool next face a resurgent West Bromwich Albion side at Bloomfield Road stadium on Monday night but Adam is a major doubt for the match up as he suffered an ankle injury during Blackpool’s two goal loss to Birmingham City last
weekend.
Holloway spoke about his star midfielder in a press conference as the charismatic yet controversial manager said, “At the moment all I know about Charlie is he's got a sore ankle, he's got some stitches in it and all I'm worried about
is if he's going to be fit for Monday. If there is a problem then it's none of my business. That's between the club and one of the players and it will be sorted out by arbitration by the sound of it so as far as I'm concerned Charlie Adam is my player and
I will keep treating him as that.  If Charlie feels that way, if the chairman feels that way and there's a dispute then someone else has got to sort it out and I'm delighted that it's not me. If he decides to be upset and unhappy I'll deal with every mood
- and he's had a few since I've been here.
Holloway went onto say, “I'll deal with them and I'll manage them as I've done before. Charlie has no problem with me at all. I've got no problem with him, and the club doesn't have a problem with him. If he feels aggrieved then he's
dealing with it in the right manner and it will get sorted one way or another." If Adam does indeed take Blackpool to court and if he does win the case eventually, it is thought that he would be eligible to leave on a free transfer as such a decision will
question the legitimacy of his contract with the Seasiders. Speaking on this situation, Ian further added that, If he's out of contract then we'll have to wait and see, if not someone might have to buy him by January and it'll be a lot more than we paid for
him because he's been a success.”
Holloway led his side to a win at Anfield just a few weeks ago; it was one of the most historic Premier League wins in Blackpool’s history as the minnows defeated Liverpool by two goals to one at their own home stadium. Since then,
Ian’s team has been on a decline but they will be looking to put things right when they host West Bromwich for some Monday night football.
