English Premier League Injury News Roundup
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur have been hit by injuries to midfielder Rafael van der Vaart and defender Younes Kaboul.
Both players were taken off the field in Spurs’ clash against Liverpool FC in the English Premier League on Sunday.
Rafael, pulled his hamstring on the 12th minute of play and could not continue. Manager Harry Redknapp stressed on the importance of having the Dutch playmaker in the side.
He said, “Rafael has torn a hamstring, so that does not look too good. He keeps picking up injuries, little injuries. He's a fantastic footballer and he's important to us, we need him.”
Central defender Younes Kaboul was having a wonderful game until he tore his hip muscle during the 1st half of the Liverpool game.
Both Kaboul and Van der Vaart will have scans on Tuesday to know the extent of damaged caused.
Redknapp, however, is hopeful of getting his injured centre-back Michael Dawson back to 1st
team action. The England international suffered a knee injury that has kept him out since September.
Tottenham, who currently lie 5th in the table, travel to St. Andrew’s on Saturday to face Birmingham City.
Liverpool FC
Liverpool’s outing at White Hart Lane on Sunday was one to forget. The Merseysiders lost the game 2-1, thanks to an Aaron Lennon strike in the dying minutes of the match.
Manager Roy Hodgson also lost his vice-captain Jamie Carragher in the 85th minute, who injured his shoulder.
Carragher’s injury adds to the list of players already sidelined due to fitness problems, including club captain Steven Gerrard.
While mentioning about the player’s condition the manager said, "It's very bad. It's a disappointing thing to happen on his 450th appearance in the Premier League. We'll now be without him and Steven Gerrard and they are the lifeblood
of our club. I don't know at this stage how long Jamie will be out for but I would think it will be quite long because it's a serious injury. It is a blow for us. Daniel Agger is still out injured and we are not really that well blessed for centre-halves."
It is believed that the English duo of Carragher and Gerrard will be out of action for at least 3 to 4 weeks.
Liverpool, who are currently 10th in the table, host 15th placed Aston Villa at Anfield on Monday, in the Premier League.
