English Premier League: Injury Update 14th November
Torres Pick Up Ankle Strain but Will Play for Spain
Liverpool confirmed that star striker Fernando Torres picked up an ankle injury in the fixture against Stoke City last night, but said that he would be fit enough to travel with the Spain national team during the week.
Torres has had a difficult season, starting from the disappointing World Cup to the poor start of the season in the English Premier League. The Spaniard was tempted to move away from Liverpool but in the end was convinced, along with Steven
Gerrard, by new manager Roy Hodgson.
His season has taken a turn for the better, in the fixture against Chelsea Torres was exceptional. The striker became a one man army when destroyed one of the best defences in the Premier League and scored both the goals to give his side
a 2-0 win and much needed points.
The club released an official statement about the striker, it said,
“Fernando Torres sustained an ankle ligament strain during Saturday's clash with Stoke City  - but the striker will still join up with the Spain squad for their international with Portugal.”
It went on to say, “The Reds' medical team have been in contact with their Spanish counterparts to keep them up to date on the 26-year-old's condition. Torres will have the injury further assessed by the Spanish
medical staff ahead of the friendly in Lisbon on Wednesday.”
Rooney’s Ankle Injury “Really Bad”
Recent reports reveal that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney told England manager Fabio Capello that his ankle injury was really bad. This could only mean that the England striker has ruled himself out of the upcoming fixture against
France.
Rooney just returned from conditioning work at Nike in the United States, but Fabio Capello revealed that he spoke to the player about two weeks ago when the two watched Manchester United take on Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Capello told reporters, “I spoke with him when I met him in Manchester. He told me that the ankle problem was really bad and that he needed three or four weeks to be fit. So it is impossible for him to be with us
this week against France after a long time without games.”
