English Premier League Injury Update -15th October 2010
Aaron Ramsey:
Ramsey is close to making a comeback after being sidelined for about eight months. The Arsenal midfielder was left with a serious injury after Ryan Shawcross of Stoke City broke his leg on two places with a misplaced and mistimed tackle.
The young Welshman has now revealed that he is ready to return and couldn’t wait to start playing again. He told reporters, “I've been doing strengthening exercises and those sort of things for a long time now. I'm starting to feel the benefits and I'm outside
training with the fitness coach, I feel good. It's great to be back outside and kicking the ball again. I missed it for a long time, but it's such a good feeling to be back outside.”
Arsenal's boss, Arsene Wenger looks impressed with the youngster’s motivation to return. He confirmed that the midfielder had started training and was once again running and kicking the ball, like he had before his horrific injury. Wenger said that the youngster
had not given up hope and since the terrible day at Stoke, had only worked towards making his return.
Many football players simply do not return from such injuries. The fact that Ramsey has, will be a big boost for Wenger. Hopefully, it won’t be too long now until Ramsey again starts for Arsenal.
Dirk Kuyt:
This Liverpool midfielder c*m striker has been ruled out for three months following his torn ankle ligaments. The Dutch International had collapsed during Holland’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Sweden and was replaced 29 minutes into the game.
Kuyt told about his injury, “The swelling is so bad that it will take three to four days to be sure. But, I fear the worst. You know your own body. It doesn't feel good. The doctors have the same feeling. I've probably torn ankle ligaments, they say. Let's
hope we are all wrong. I can only wait and keep my fingers crossed but I am glad that I was at least stopped from going back on to the pitch.”
Fernando Torres and Paul Konchesky:
Finally, some good news for Liverpool fans as Fernando Torres and Paul Konchesky are declared fit for the derby over the weekend. Liverpool get set to take on Everton on Sunday in the Merseyside derby away at Goodison Park and will receive a boost with the
return of their star striker, especially after Dirk Kuyt has been sidelined for three long months.
Torres had suffered a groin injury against Blackpool, a match that Liverpool lost while Konchesky had been out since last month after he strained his hamstring in the draw against Sunderland. According to Liverpool's boss, Roy Hodgson, “Konchesky has made
a good recovery as has Fernando Torres so all being well we can welcome those two back.”
Frank Lampard:
Chelsea have been dealt with another blow as their star midfielder, Frank Lampard has been ruled out for another two weeks. The England International was supposed to return this weekend against Aston Villa, but he now has suffered a groin strain and will
be unavailable once again.
Carlo Ancelotti has time and again stressed on the importance of Lampard for his squad and has made it clear that he will not play him unless he was fully fit. Lampard will not only miss the Aston Villa clash but also the Champions League away fixture against
Spartak Moscow and the home game against Wolves.
The Blues have so far been managing well without Lampard but with the absence of their two important midfielders, Ancelotti’s side will now need to step up their game in order to maintain their lead in the Premier League.
