English Premier League: Jamie Carragher out-of-action for Liverpool
Liverpool’s inspirational defender Jamie Carragher will be out of action for at least 3 months. The thirty-two-year-old Englishman dislocated his shoulder playing against Tottenham last weekend; a match Liverpool lost 2-1. The good news for the team is that their captain Steven Gerrad is all set for a return.
Carragher has been told by the clubs medical staff that he will be requiring an operation. Carragher’s message on the clubs official website read,
“I'll be having surgery at the end of the week. The average is about 12 weeks. I'd like to come back before that but I've got to make sure it's right.”
Central defender, Daniel Agger, is still out after he suffered a calf problem. He however is expected to make his return midway through December. Liverpool’s head of medical staff Dr Peter Brukner has expressed his satisfaction over Agger’s recovery.
The Reds will be boosted by the news of the expected return of their captain, Steven Gerrad. The mid-fielder suffered a hamstring injury during the home defeat, in an international friendly against France. He was predicted to be out for four weeks but the midfield maestro, has made a remarkable recovery. Brukner said,
“Steven's going well. He's back running, though not back in training. He's certainly looking good to play the Newcastle game, which has been our target all along. We're hoping he'll be back in training at the start of next week.”
Liverpool faces Newcastle on the 11th of December. Joe Cole, who was sidelined with a similar hamstring problem, has recovered and is set to play in the Europa League  match against Steaua Bucharest. Brukner stated,
“Joe is in full training and is available for the Europa League game"
Liverpool has lost six of their 15 league games this season and is just five points adrift the relegation zone. Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will be hoping for a fast recovery by his key defender. Another defeat in the league can result in dire consequences for the Reds manager. Liverpool will face Aston Villa, at Anfield, in their next league game.
