English Premier League Latest: Arsene Wenger looks to win at Stamford Bridge
Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, has stated that he strongly feels that his Arsenal side have the quality, ability and coordination required to beat the reigning Premier League Champions, Chelsea. Arsenal will be traveling
to the Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but will be without their captain Cesc Fabregas and a number of key players.
The twenty three year old World Cup winner and club captain was expected to recover ahead of the predicted time frame and make it back into the Arsenal side, before they set off to face
Chelsea on Sunday. However that doesn't seem to be the case as the midfielder has not been included in the squad list for the game so far. So unless the player was to make a dramatic last second return, there’s very little chance of
him making an appearance against Chelsea.
Arsenal will also be without Thomas Vermaelen, the
Belgium captain, who still hasn't managed to recover from his achilles injury and will be out for another few weeks. Arsenal’s strikers - Theo Walcott and Robin Van Persie - are also scheduled to sit this game out, having failed to
recover in time to make the squad list.
With so many key players injured, most people expected Wenger to not want a trip to
Chelsea be the next game for the team - however the manager has taken a rather optimistic approach, despite having lost to
West Brom at home this past weekend. Wenger strongly feels that his side can go on and defeat the current league leaders.
"I believe we have enough strength to win the game and that is what we want to do," Wenger declared.
"If we turn up with a great performance - and I am convinced we will - we will beat them.
"Football is down to the performance on the day."
"What is important is: have we the potential to beat
Chelsea - I say yes. Are Chelsea a good team? I say yes, but we can beat a good team."
This optimism from the manager could prove to be the key for the young Arsenal side that will be taking on the ruthless
Chelsea side. Chelsea have so far conceded the least number of goals in the league, while scoring the most.
Arsenal will however have to dig deep if they wish to get any points from the game. If the team manages to have major slip ups once again, then it is assured that
Chelsea will annihilate the Gunners. That being said, Arsenal could on the other hand stick to their game plan and out play
Chelsea in their own home. This match could prove to be the deciding factor in Arsenal's season – even this early on.
