English Premier League: Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson aims for top 4 finish
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC manager Roy Hodgson has spoken about his ambition to finish in the top 4 in the English Premier League at the end of the season.
Liverpool are currently 9th in the standings with 22 points off 17 games. The Reds are 9 points behind the 4th placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 FC who are on 31 points.
In all fairness to him, Hodgson must not be considered over ambitious as he was the man behind the Reds revival from the poor start to the season.
In early October this season, Liverpool were fighting relegation while languishing in 18th place. Roy has turned around his side’s season and catapulted them into the top half of the season.
Now, the 63-year-old aims to capture a spot in the top 4 of the table. He may well be able to accomplish the task, given that Liverpool’s next few fixtures are against lesser opposition.
They travel to Blackpool FC on the Boxing Day, before hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers at Anfield. The Merseysiders are expected to win these three matches and further improve their ranking.
Roy said, "We are in a position to strike for the top four but we are a good few points off. Some people would say it is pie in the sky to suggest we can do it but I don't think there is such a thing as pie in the sky in terms of football.”
The manager was of the opinion that nothing was "impossible" in the game of football.
He added, “I have seen so many times in the past teams who have been doomed to relegation not get relegated and teams like Leeds United many years ago who were so obviously going to win the first division and didn't do so.
“Everything is possible and while things are possible we will play for them but we are realistic and we are not making any vain promises. We know we have given ourselves a severe handicap but we will work to bring in that handicap."
The former Fulham FC manager will also welcome back his captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 who returns to action this week.
The industrious midfielder’s last appearance in a red shirt was in Liverpool’s away victory over Stoke City on 13th November.
