English Premier League: Liverpool news recap
Payoff to Roy Hodgson won’t affect transfers
Liverpool have claimed that paying off Roy Hodgson for his departure after mutual consent will not affect the club’s transfer budget for the January transfer window. After just six miserable months in charge, Roy Hodgson was relieved
of his duties this Saturday, regardless of the three-year deal he signed on his arrival to Anfield.
Reports reveal that the former Fulham manager left after agreeing to be paid a year’s salary plus a lucrative payoff, which is similar to when Rafa Benitez left with a payment of about £4 million last summer. However, Liverpool’s
commercial director Ian Ayre claimed the club would not be paying a hefty amount, leaving them with plenty to spend on transfers.
While speaking to reporters, he said: “We reached an agreement with Roy and certainly that type of payment does not come into the same area of business as our transfer budget.” He went on to defend the decision made by the new
owners to hire Hodgson in the first place, but admitted that it was time for the Englishman to part ways with the club.
Ayre added, “In the summer we went through a very exhaustive process and it is easy to look in hindsight and say it might have been better or different. What we have done in the last few days is bring Kenny back to turn it around.
Roy's departure was not based on the fans' reaction. There is not anyone at this club who does not think Roy is a great coach.”
A great coach indeed... the only thing Liverpool fans can be grateful to him for is the fact that he retained the services of skipper Steven Gerrard and striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 and the fact that he brought Joe Cole to Anfield on
a free transfer. Other than that, the manager was a flop and was lucky to remain in charge for as long as he managed.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish’s first test without skipper Steven Gerrard and other key players
The new Liverpool (caretaker) manager Kenny Dalglish will be going into his first English Premier League clash against a stubborn Blackpool without captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196, who is serving a three-match ban. The Reds’ captain picked
up a straight red in the FA Cup third round clash against Manchester United and is now set to miss the next three league fixtures.
The absence of Gerrard is not the injury problem Dalglish is facing; the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694 remains sidelined with
an ankle injury, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Konchesky has a dead leg and will go through several tests before it can be determined if he is under any condition to play.
The interim squad available for Dalglish at this point in the season is; Reina, Kelly, Agger, Skrtel, Aurelio, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528, Meireles, Kuyt, Rodriguez, Torres, Babel, Gulacsi, Kyrgiakos, Poulsen, Shelvey, Ngog, Jovanovic, Johnson, Cole,
Konchesky. No one expects wonders, but the NESV owners will expect a somewhat improved performance than under Roy Hodgson.
