English Premier League: Manchester United star Wayne Rooney to be nurtured back
Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that he is ready to nurture Wayne Rooney back into form come the start of the English Premier League. The long standing Manchester United manager also clarified that English players are handicapped every time they participate in an international tournament for England because of the absence of a winter break in the English Premier League.
United are currently busy with their pre-season tour to U.S.A, Canada and Mexico. This is the first time since 2004 that Manchester United has specifically visited the United States of America for pre-season purposes. Moreover, Manchester United is not only a football club now as many see it as an impressive brand name that needs marketing and handling just like any other product in the market.
America has seen a recent revival in soccer as a national sport largely due to the U.S. national men’s soccer team’s performances at the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Manchester United’s tour has come at the right time because the Yankee nation is on a soccer high right now. Manchester United is scheduled to play their second match of the pre-season tour to North America and Mexico against the Philadelphia Union team in Philadelphia city.
Their first match ended in a victory for them against Celtic which was played in Toronto, Canada. Manchester United will visit Kansas after getting their game against Philadelphia. Several of Manchester United’s squad members have already come out and explained how precious proper pre-season training can be.
Talking about a possible introduction of a winter break, Ferguson said that the English Football Association is responsible for giving their national football team the best possible chance of winning a tournament such as the World Cup. He added that because of the way that football is played in the English Premier League and the extensive demands by television channels for sports programs around the clock, the idea of a winter break has not been taken seriously by the English F.A.
He explained that, he had been vouching for a winter break in the English season since the past 30 years. Ferguson stated that it was crucial for the English F.A to realize that their national team is being handicapped due to the absence of the winter break during the English football season. It should be noted that football seasons in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Holland all include a winter break which helps the players recover from their injuries and give them a breather before major tournaments.
Commenting on his star striker Wayne Rooney, Ferguson said that the striker has an incredible amount of energy. He added that supporters will have to wait for the player to mature a bit more because he is still young at the moment. He also added that Rooney will be nurtured and advised carefully by the coaches at Manchester United.
He praised the English striker by saying that his movement and timing inside the box had improved during the previous season. Ferguson also added that Rooney got over 30 goals for Manchester United last season which was a good sign for the future. The Manchester United manager concluded by saying that if Rooney manages to repeat that feat, then it will help him grow as a player.
