English Premier League: Mancini sets targets for City to achieve by end of the season
After drawing their last two home matches in the English Premier League, Manchester City travel to Fulham on the weekend as Roberto Mancini’s men look for all three points in their league campaign. City who were thought to be genuine title
contenders at the start of the season but now been relegated to UEFA Champions League contenders list due to their unfavourable start to the Premier League season.
Roberto Mancini recently came out and suggested that City will be happy with a cup win and a UEFA Champions League spot at the end of the season, these statements from the Italian come at a time when City are in a desperate need of an
attacking mentality. The club’s fans have been voicing their discontent on the way their team has been playing thus far under Mancini. Manchester City spent a fortune in the previous transfer window as they brought in the likes of Yaya Toure, David Silva and
James Milner along with Jerome Boateng. However, the new signings have not had the desired impact at the Manchester club yet.
Speaking on the club’s performances till now, Roberto said, "We are in fourth position, three points behind United but we must check at the end of the season. At the end of the season I think we will get into the Champions League and probably
we will win something. This is my opinion because I believe we have improved a lot."
City play Fulham in their next league match, Fulham are currently being managed by Mark Hughes, an ex-Manchester City manager himself who was replaced by Mancini last season. City’s boss added, "I don't know if Mark Hughes has a point
to prove but Sunday is Fulham against Manchester City, not Mancini against Hughes. Maybe it means more, I don't know. But I am sure they always try to win, whether they play against Manchester City or Newcastle, who they played last Saturday."
Elaborating on the horrors of modern football management, Mancini went onto say, "This is our life. A manager's life. Today you can be here. Tomorrow you can be at another club. If a manager does not accept this, he doesn't do his job.
The world is full of football managers. I am not saying we will achieve things because I want to keep my job. I am saying it because I know my job and I know my squad. We are fourth now and the best is yet to come. We beat Liverpool and Chelsea and didn't
give them any chances. We didn't give Manchester United any chances. This is very important. If we don't give our opponents any chances we won't have a problem scoring when everyone is available."
Roberto concluded by confirmed that City’s Brazilian striker Jo will be fit for their encounter against Fulham which is set to take place at the Craven Cottage stadium in London on Sunday.
